I wouldn't recommend her. Takes out 3 points out of 5 only for not including page numbers on your discussion posts. Also, takes out at least 1 point from any assignment you have for no reason at all and doesn't give you feedback on anything. Takes roll every time and has students participating in class but gives no points for them whatsoever.

Personally, I do care for gender study classes. This was a requirement to fulfill my upper division gen ed. Overall, I would recommend this class if you are going into the field, otherwise I did not find it interesting. But, I will say there were a few articles within the textbook that were eye opening. I would say that she assigns a lot of work with a lot of requirements for only 5 points a post. Online class takers, if you do not attend the online chat, then you will get a low grade on participation. I wish she wouldnt schedule chats at 4pm when that is the time schools get out and if you have to pick someone up, GOOD LUCK with that.

She's nice, but all you do in her class is take turns reading out of the textbook. She does not make lesson plans or anything interesting to learn by. She has you do "leading discussions" which basically is just the students teaching the material instead of her. I thought this class was going to be interesting but I was disappointed.

Weekly journal writings (1 pg entries/reading; 2-3 readings/class due at end of semester- DON'T PROCRASTINATE), 2 response papers (type 1-2 journal entries & turn in during class), minimum 6-7 pg midterm (annotate & opinion; mine was 10 pgs), final (either written or class presentation). Tends to rely on students to teach class; not very prepared.

This class was one of the worst I've taken at CSUN. The syllabus was incredibly confusing, and hard to follow. She grades down ALOT for not citing sources. Albeit, I should have paid more attention to detail, but if you tend to overlook things like that as I do, I suggest you don't take the class because you won't pass.

avoid the class. all we did was get in groups, read chapters we read the night before in class at beginning. then all we did was sit in circles and do class lead discussions. for the little work she put in herself, she expected too much as students taught class. not too much work, but this is a lecture class, not a seminar, would not take her again

She really doesn't want you to receive an A. In everything, she takes at least 1 point off. For discussion boards, you have to do the readings but they're interesting so it's okay. the only thing is that she can't stand to see her students get an A. I had a department-wide final(math) on the day of her live chat. She didn't believe it.

Worst class in my career at CSUN. Ignores your email, slow grader, but piles on the work. If she can't keep up with the grading then adjust the syllabus. This is more a soc sci class on 'unearned white privilege' than a gender studies.

She states that attendance is mandatory, but lets people slide. She will keep the class the entire time, and in my classes case she added a week to the schedule. Assignments due every week, but she still took papers from some who were late turning in assignments with no penalty. Not a hard class, but do not expect an easy A.

Professor Bartlow is what every professor should be. She really listens and cares what her students are learning and have to say. Very interactive class. You must attend and participate to get both the grade and the growth you will obtain in this course. Loved the class!

Terrible teacher. Does not even teach the class. She makes each person of the class teach a lesson throughout the whole semester. Ten page paper due as a finial. Bad class.
