His teaching is terrible. He just writes stuff on the board unlike other professors who uses powerpoints to clearly demonstrate what is going on. I cannot read what he says in class. It's honestly hard to grasp what's going on in the class.

Would really recommend not taking this professor/class. Lectures are almost useless in trying to understand the material. You are forced to try and learn the material from the book yourself. Unfortunately, the book is also confusing and filled with unclear/vague explanations. Never had a class like this before. Take another professor.

Much of what you will be tested over isn't covered in class. Most students are failing the class and have no idea how to solve many of the assigned problems. Amazing professor, easy A. homework is super easy. his exam is open book. sometimes he make it "take home test". you don't need to attend all his materials are online and all his exam questions are from his slides

Very inspirational professor. There are only small differences between the questions he talked about and exam questions. For example, he talked about the minimum number of comparisons needed to find the largest element, and in exam, he asked about the second largest element. Getting a 70 out of 100 in exams is definitely an A.

Amazing teacher. Posts all his notes and power points. Always available for questions. Clear questions and grading. Exams and hw are strait from the powerpoints. Pass his class and you are good for the entire UH CS program. Great Bollywood dancing skills. Get a 70 in the class and get a A.

Easiest professor I've ever taken for cosc. Verma is a great inspiration to all his students and the class was extremely easy. I loved the multiple choice on the hw and exams

hws and exams are extremely hard as hell, many surprise quizzes. class average never got more than 20 or 30. his class is equal to 5 computer science classes, he doesn't do review or anything before exams or for final. just tell you to read entire book.

Pros: Good sense of humor Cons: everything else This guy is extremely hard. Covers easy examples in class but seems to put the hardest questions he can find on HW and tests. Averages on tests were always really low like in the 20's to 30's. If you have to take this man, make sure you understand the book perfectly. Otherwise, avoid.

if you are taking this class in the future, read the book religiously, also make sure to ask the teacher exactly what chapters need to be read by exactly what date. and read what he says to read *before* class. do this and you should be okay

An impossible class. Just lectures and teaches you the basics. Whereas, the hw and exam qs are 100x harder. He expects u to read an extremely confusing book & does not answer u properly if u ask him questions. Even his Hw Solutions are more qs which are extrmly confusing. Avoid him.. even if it costs u extra time to graduate. No reasnable curve.

This is pretty much a self-study class. Expect to learn on your own a lot. Try to learn the topics from the internet first before attempting to read the book. Verma isn't helpful because he tends to answer your questions with more questions. I didn't learn anything from him. Just be prepared to study on your own

Worst professor I have had. I should have dropped this class when the professor got into a verbal argument with a student after being confronted for not preparing us for his ridiculous reading quiz. Grade averages for every assignment were in the 20-30. Your promised a curve at the end of the semester, but this translates to C's and D's

Do not take this Professor! He's a nice guy and means well but, his teaching methods are horrible. He goes over easy examples and then puts ridiculously difficult problems on the exams. Our class average on the tests were around 35. He does curve at the end but I would recommend not sticking around to find out.

Comment:

The professor really wants the students to focus on deep learning. So he makes the quizzes and exams challenging. He is very fair at grading though and generous when giving final grades. Some people do not stick around because they get scared about their grade and some do not want to learn deeply.
