Very good; she is a humble professor I've ever encountered. warm, witty and caring. The class topic itself very interesting, and furthermore Rima and her TA collaboration were good. Get ready to read LONG articles every class for a midterm. I don't take the final yet, but regardless of my grade, I will take her different class if possible.

Rima is laid back, not boring and straight to the point and offers bonus marks for attending outside of class events. There were no essays just 3 15% midterms based on articles and a 55% final based on lectures only. The readings are easy to read, however the tests on them were tough. Nicole was nice, gave pointers on what to write but still hard

The class is tough... but, Rima is funny and makes the material really interesting. Someone said that the TA (Nicole) is tough marker, but Rima said that she made how they were graded. Nicole was really helpful when I asked for help before a midterm (I got a way better mark when I did). If you put in the work, you can get a good mark.

For Soci310, Rima is amazing. The TA though that marks the midterms (Nicole) is hard af. She wants every single word from the readings to be in your answer to give you a decent grade. Not fair at all. No final paper but 3 midterms that are crazy hard and you'll have to read all the hard readings lol. Goodluck!

The class consisted of three midterms and a final- no paper. Her lectures were really interesting and she definitely has a sense of humor! But- you must keep up with the readings to get a good grade.

While I completely enjoyed her, the content sort of disappointed me. It was less about Canadian culture per se and more about minorities within Canada. We didn't learn about politics, etc. It was mainly about immigrants, aboriginals, women, the chinese, african accents etc. Which is great for intersectionality etc, but not very well rounded.

Professor Wilkes is simply inspirational. Her class made Canadian society actually seem distinct and showed both Canada's flaws and strengths. Tests are not easy as they are long but they are fair if you study well. No assignments at all! Would totally recommend to others.

The course has 3 midterms (each 15%) and a final worth 55% - must attend lectures as the final exam is based solely on in-class lectures and the three midterms are based on the reading. The work-load is very manageable, I was able to read right before the tests and did pretty well. Rima is hilarious and very knowledgable!

The course is made up of 3 midterms worth 15% each (on readings) and one final worth 55% (only on lecture material). She gives the class an opportunity for an additional 5% extra credit as well handed in at the end of the semester. She is very passionate and keeps up with current events in Canadian society. She also has a fun sense of humour.

Rima is probably the best professor I've ever had. There wasn't one class where I didn't laugh and her lectures are really interesting on what could be a fairly boring subject. There are three midterms and a final, no textbook. She gives lots of opportunity for extra credit (up to 5%). If you're going to take a class it should be this one!!

Best sociology prof at UBC. Wasn't a single class where I didn't laugh. Interesting lectures. Opportunity for bonus marks (up to 5% of total grade). Only test based (3 midterms: 15% each, 1 final: 55%). Don't take if not good test taker, but otherwise definitely recommend. Attending lectures mandatory: final exam is only on lectures. No textbook.

Rima Wilkes is hands down the best professor I've had in Sociology so far. She made a course I wasn't too keen on taking absolutely enjoyable. She is the most fair grader you'll ever have, doesn't try to trick you during exams, extremely clear on what you're meant to revise for each exam and you'll have a guaranteed laugh in each lecture! Love her!

Posts her power points, very helpful, and most importantly... she really got me thinking critically about Canadian society. Opened my eyes and learnt a lot. No textbook, exams are very fair.
