I cannot say enough nice things about Professor Ogles. I struggled hard with test anxiety in college. I went to him and showed that I was getting therapy for it, and I explained the situation. He was incredibly understanding and did everything he could to help me. While the lectures were boring, he is an amazing professor. Be ready to read the book

Comment:
This class is extremely simple and Prof. Ogles is so nice. There is honestly no need to go to class as long as you read the assigned chapters and look over the lecture slides. The reading does take a while but the only other assignments were three 250 word reaction "papers".

Class attendance is not only not required but pointless. Literally all he does is read the notes that are posted on blackboard. This class was so easy. The two papers and three extra credit options are completion grades. No final. amazingly easy.

The class and the information that Dr. Ogles presents is quite easy; however, sometimes his wording is strange. If you do the reading and go to class in once in awhile, you'll do well enough. Also, do the extra credit! Easy points.

pretty easy class...do what is asked and you will recieve a high grade. reading the book is a must (watch out for the all the colorful boxes and captions). he isn't the most animated lecturer, but the material is somewhat interesting so it's bearable

An interesting class, I actually learned quite a bit. Although attendance to lecture is not mandatory, it certainly helped. Read the assigned material and use the lecture power points (posted to Blackboard) and you should be fine. Do the extra credit, it is easy!! The prof. does not award A+'s, just A's & A-'s.

No need to go to class because his lecture is almost verbatim to the power point slides he posts online. Don't read the whole chapter just read the colorful boxes inside the assigned chapters for the test. Tests are pretty straightforward...spend around an 1 hr. to 1 1/2 hrs reading over the notes and reading the colorful boxes you'll do well.

Boring professor who would rather name drop and attempt to make jokes than teach the subject matter. Quite pompous.

Ogles is a very patient, good natured person, although quite boring in his presentation of the information. However, the information he presents is extremely vital to anyone going into the communication field, so you learn to look past the boringness. So what if he was boring, it was easy and he was very helpful.

You need the book no matter what, lectures yield nothing important that you can't get from the book. Test cover even the smallest details in the book, even the captions under pictures are fair game for test. Test are very hard because of such detail and willing to make questions even harder for students than need be. I give him a "C-."

I'm sure he's a nice man, but lectures were so terribly boring. Its really all too tempting to take a nap. Read the book carefully and pay attention to captions, sidebar type things, and graphs.

He enjoys putting questions on the test that are from the tiniest details in the book- even when i read VERY intently, it's hard to get these questions correct because they're so specific. Needs to make lectures more interesting...

I rarely went to lecture after the first exam because none of the information in the lectures helped that much on the tests. I read the chapters before each test and got a B on every test. The lectures are good for reinforcing what you read, but he'll ask questions on the exams about captions in the books so definitely make sure you do read.

I had Com. 250 my freshman year and it was a breeze. Yes, it was dry at times...and a lot of people skipped classes because it's in a huge lecture hall. Turns out so many people re-take Com 250. It's really not hard. Just read the book and look over the notes. I was so pissed when I was a freshman because he is discouraging. I am now a Purdue alum and in retrospect, he is just preparing you and helping you to realize you need to be driven. Props to the Ogles!

I thought the class was a breeze. If you take the time to read the ch's and fill out the study guides, basically memorize the material and you're set. I did think he was VERY discouraging, though. I think he has industry experience and is fairly knowledgeable however.

i thought professor Ogles was a pretty good teacher. lots of real life experience and stories related to subject matter. lectures were a little difficult to stay attentive in, mostly because it was a power hour. he definitely was discouraging about the field of communication, but i don't think he was unjustly so, and students need all sides of the story. every com grad i know is now a secretary or a used car salesman, so i think there's some truth to it.
