Rod is a very nice man and an excellent teacher. He encourage our class to try out new writing styles. He marks fairly and is more than willing to discuss 'why,' outside of class. I really enjoyed his class.

I hated English until I took Rod's class. If you did not attend class and made no effort to change your writing style after your first bad mark on a paper then yes the semester would be terrible. However, if you got some bad comments and then went and talked to him he was extremely helpful with improving my writing style and my marks improved!

Rod tries hard but doesn't get that an A should be relevant to the skills expected in the classroom, not compared to someone who already has a degree. Another thing he doesn't get is that being negative, which he is a lot of the time in class or in his marking, is the exact wrong way to inspire. Try again Rod, you can do it!

All through grade school I was an honour student in English, I am actually wanting to become an English teacher.. that's how passionate I am. According to Rod, I am a horrible writer and have no skill whatsoever. I really cannot afford a bad grade, especially in the subject I have chosen to major in.

Horrible horrible teacher. Cant stress enough how unfair with marking he was. I was writing papers for him and getting C's then next semester's english with another teacher I got nothing but A's. Unless you are one of his favorites, you will not do well in this class. AVOID

AMAZING! Creative writing was the best engl class I have ever taken! It's tough to have your work torn apart at first but because he is a writer himself it is awesome learning from him!! Take this class if you can!

Rod believes that he is above all of his students & vocally told the class that no student should recieve a grade higher than a C for the 1st 3 yrs of university eng! I dropped his class because I can't afford to have a low GPA for the faculty that I want to get into. He needs to realise the majority of people are only in eng b/c its required

A very rude man. His condescension towards his students and lack of enthusiasm for the class made it very difficult to respect him. The only constructive thing I learned in this class is to watch out for the word "that." A+ students would have to work extremely hard to get B's in his class and that is not a compliment.

his marking was all over the place. He has no real guidelines so you cant dispute a mark. I would take a couple of hours on a assignment and get a poor mark but on a assignment weighted the same I would take 20 mins and get a much better mark. Wasn't helpful at all. Took my "vapour" thesis and gave it for someone else to use as a good one.HORRIBLE

I am a hardworking, detail oriented student. When taking his class I worked very hard and ended up barely passing the class. He was completly unreasonable and expected us to be able to write at his level, not taking into account our class was an entry level University english class.I love writing and was nearly ready to give it up after his class.
