The worst prof I have ever met. In the final, he told us we have to write 12 pages essay, and he still assigned us 100 images to memorize.

he is the worst professor I have ever met. He gave us 2 essays questions a week before final and expected us to finish those 12-16 pages during the final week and prepare for his own final which includes 100+ image bank. He doesn't care about his students at all

This class was reasonable and interesting until the final they sprung on us a total of 20 pages for a take-home essay given only a week to work on it. Nothing was changed when the class expressed their view that it was unfair. The final was worth 60% of our grade

The midterm is 13 of your grade and the final is 23. I got a 76% on my midterm and studied like crazy for the final but managed to pass the class with a B-. It was super hard to memorize those 400+ slides and dates but tbh I had fun with it. Just communicate with the TA if you're struggling and you'll be fine. And study! The book is a life saver!

Those who bash him are upset because they're use to the traditional rigid lecture format of classes, but he is not that way. He's such a sweet&calming presence. Many teachers can make you feel pressured, but not him. And lectures feel as if it's a conversation where he's just passing on his immense amount of knowledge. It's actually a nice change.

This guy is one of the most brilliant- world class intellectuals ever. I can't be more enthusiastic about the level of meaningful content he simply utters in a single class period. He seems above all petty and useless school room routine. If you like a thinking professor with superlative scholarship- well I think you can see where I'm going here...

There's one midterm that counts at 1/3 of your grade and a take home essay final that counts as 2/3 of your final. I read the books right before the midterm and did okay. The final consisted of 2 essay questions and you can use your books. I did the bare minimum and got a B in the class. If you actually try then it will be an easy A.

Absolutely terrible lecturer. He was hard to understand, spoke too fast, assumed people knew how to spell Greek words, etc. I have a lot of knowledge in greek art so it wasn't so difficult for me, but any one who doesn't will have a horrible time. AND he tests on images that arent in the book! DO NOT TAKE A CLASS FROM HIM!!!

He is clearly knowledge about the subject and is very passionate about it. The haters like to say he is ancient and doesn't use e-mail but those are the idiots who never bother going to his office hours or asking him questions after class. I've taken 4 classes with him and he is the best!

No e-mail to ask him questions outside of class but he's a really smart guy. If you love art history, you'll enjoy his class because he's passionate about the subject and knows about everything! Sure, he mumbles sometimes but he repeats things a lot so lectures are comprehensible and necessary. No role taken though.

I didn't like his Greek art class, but he's very different in the Surrealism class. Maybe he's bored to death of Greek art, because the class was awful. He's way more helpful, energetic and engaged in the surrealism class.

Professor does not speak clearly, mumbles so you can't even clearly understand what piece of artwork he is talking about. Hard to get in contact with, he doesn't even have email, and is horrible with technology. He postponed the midterm until a week before the finals because he didn't know how to upload slides on artstor. Horrible lecturer, makes

if you like wasting time and money- then take this class! nodleman could care less about you as a student, and gets frustrated when you ask for clarification. you're better off staying at home and reading the book, because this class (and this professor) is a joke!

Nodelman is the greatest! He goes into great depth, if you love the subject you'll regard him as a blessing. And yes, he is an academic dinosaur. I love it when he cracks up on his own jokes. Also, he just can't seem to end a sentence, there's always another clause to add. I've taken three of his classes and eagerly await the next.

I didn't work hard and got a B. Midterm is mostly slides with a few vocab definitions (only 10 pts worth.) Then the final was a few slides with mostly essays. The essays weren't too difficult, mostly topics from lecture and the reading. Really boring, but not too difficult. There is a sign in sheet, so at least go to sign in.

Obvious that he's passionate about his material. He's not used to technology so there's a lot of microphone, slide projector difficulties. But he goes over the important stuff a lot so just take good notes.

This professor knows his subject really well but he a terrible lecturer. He also does not really welcome questions or help. He does not respond to email so heĆ¢€™s hard to get a hold of with out going to office hours. There was a midterm and a take-home final. Of course the readers really determine your grade and my readers were not great.

I'd steer clear if I were you. Lectures are extremely boring. Extremely dry material and less than half the class shows up to lecture. Slide ID/essay/short answer midterm. Gave us a list of 100+ slides to memorize and tested us on only 10. The topics for the essay finals were also pretty difficult. I regret signing up for this class.
