Nice guy good professor. Not very clear for essays or assignments but in class is a very good teacher and tries to get you involved. The more you get involved the better you will be in his class.

Vance has a very unique style that not all may connect with. He is comfortable with silence, and loves to entertain ideas. He won't spoon feed you- you better be prepared to do some hard thinking. He always has time for students- You might not get what you went into his office looking for, but you will come out with lots to think about.

Comment:
Encourage the students a lot, and willing to have a discussion section for their papers. This course is not too difficult if you do all the readings. He taught the class a great philosophical word - "consecutional" (which he said the Dao of the class taught him that).
