Great teacher, really cares about his job. He gives a lot of homework but it is super easy to do, and not time-consuming. He is very easy going, and makes his class is fun.

Comment:

Cooksey is the greatest teacher I've ever had. Seriously. His teaching makes me want to be a better student and writer, and I'm so engaged in how he teaches that I don't realize the time has passed. He makes you WANT to do well in his classes, which is great. Sometimes he can be a tough grader, but you learn from it with him. Favorite ever.

Very kind and interesting professor, paper assignments actually grabbed my attention and made me think without being too hard. Reading mostly poetry and short stories, very flexible with due dates and assignments as the class needs

Didnt give much essays but was tough on grading. He likes to challenge his students and actually wants his students to learn the material. Overall hes sweet and a good professor.

Comment:

I have learned more from Cooksey than any other professor at HCC. However, his standards for Honors 102 are incredibly high; A's are almost impossible to earn on essays. Homework based on completion is vital. I wont leave HCC with a 4.0, but taking Cooksey's class was well worth an imperfect GPA. Do you want to be a better writer? Take his class.

Fred has been an essential part of my college experience. After taking his class I immediately switched to him as my advisor. He is direct, compassionate, level-headed, and has a dry/wry sense of humor. He meets his students where they stand, but demands the best from each of them -- apt, being that he is himself incredibly hard working.

I had him for Creative Writing for Nonfiction. You will definitely be writing on a consistent basis. If you do the work and go to class, you should be alright. He explains things clearly, he's funny, thorough, and informative. I learned a lot in this class, and enjoyed it greatly. I would definitely take him again.

Comment:

One of my favorite professors on campus. Very easy to work with, great classroom personality, and the syllabus is very clearly laid out with work. His classes do make you work, but it's rewarding work that makes you think. Highly recommend.

Comment:

I'm surprised so many people thought he was a hard teacher. His method is actually very easy; you read a poem/story, he analyzes it in class, then you write an essay based on his analysis pretty much. He's really nice and really easy to get along with. He wants all his students to do their best. He's really subtly funny. I would recommend him.

Took his Honors English Class. Really helpful, stayed after class to talk about how to improve my papers/writing. Lotsa peer reviews (for every research paper). Funny guy. One of the books he wrote is a required text. Workload has been up to my expectations (and not over.) Nothing bad to say about him. Don't know why you would drop his class..

I took Cookseys Creative non-fiction class. I recommend it to anyone who is interested in writing or needs an English credit. He is friendly has great stories to tell and keeps things interesting and fun. He is a fair grader as well. You are only allowed three absences I believe. Great professor take his classes

I took almost every class Fred taught, including work for the student newspaper. He is inspiring and a great person. He has taught me everything I know about Journalism and so much more. He can cater to each learning style but loves students who wants to be challenged. He's smart and goofy. Take his classes, you won't regret it.

i had him as a professor at Smith college to a special program and let me tell you... if you take the time to meet him he is awesome! he has so much to offer and even though he was a little shy around us 20 girls at first, he became one of my favorite teachers ever!
