I took his class as an exchange student in La Crosse. English is not my first language but I was able to receive a A-. If you do your work, Konas will help you! I have to say I really appreciated his class and the readings were very well chosen. Speak up in class one time each session and you will be fine! I learned a lot.

alright so the class itself is not awful for a lit class. Like the stories are good and you read one once a night. But his exams consist of deciding which of the 16 stories a quote came from, who said it, and why. BUT YOU NEVER TALK ABOUT THAT IN CLASS. the tests kill. Make sure you read!!!

Course material is expected, lots of reaing from a bunch of old dead people. although some of the readings i enjoyed, most were very boring. Must participate and attend class or he fails you. Exams are very very hard. only take two exams and one final exam(not cumulative). with needing to see and review a play as well as a semester long journal.

My class with Prof. Konas was the most infuriating class I've taken here. The lectures are super long and I didn't learn anything. We spent an entire class one time learning how to put a picture into a Word Doc. He's also very strict about paying attention in class - you cannot be working on other things. I would not take again - take anyone else!

Tests are impossible. Gives quotes and you're expected to know what they are from and who said them from give or take 20 storiesplaysbooks. Be prepared to be offended if you are a white, female, conservative. Don't even touch your cell phone in class or he will ask you to leave.

It is all reading which was fine since that was basically all the class was. All class is is discussion. I learned a lot. There is some mature content, but nothing to shy away from. The exams are a bit difficult, but if you read you will be just fine. Always make an attempt because he might give you points if you are somewhat right.

Dr. Konas is absolutely the worst professor I have ever taken. He is an egotistical jackass who belittles his students to inflate his ego. Don't take him, I repeat DO NOT TAKE HIM. He is a blight on the entire English department at UWL. Anyone else is a better choice, I promise you that.

Konas is an interesting character. He makes his opinion very clear in class and is not afraid to contest yours if you choose to share yours. The writing assignment directions are vague so expect points taken off. I asked him for clarification on every writing assignment and he just referred back to the paper. Not good help. Didn't enjoy his class.

I was pretty excited to take an advanced writing class, however, Dr. Konas made me hate English. He is extremely unclear about his expectations for assignments and takes off nit-picky points. He also makes a lot of uncomfortable comments that make the whole class feel awkward. I would not recommend taking him if you can at all help it.

Reading assignment each night, in exams he expects you to recognize a single line from a story. If you've read each work and thought about them outside of class, the exams are do-able. Some comments in class are uncomfortable, but this is the big people world. If you learn to laugh with him and love classic American lit this class will be enjoyable

DO not take him! His tests are stupid-the only parts I got points off on his tests was where you had to IDENTIFY a SINGLE line from one of the 20 works we read in that unit. He also is extremely inappropriate and made me very uncomfortable, especially as a lady. You read about child abuse and those are his 'favorite poems'. It's not worth it.

Although his tests are very hard, he is a nice guy. He will take anyone's opinion and make it into a class discussion. He never makes you feel dumb if you speak up in class, and I suggest you do so for participation points. Also don't miss class, and try to read before every class because he has 5 pop quizzes!! Overall nice guy, I liked him.

He is incredibly arrogant. His test are nearly impossible and all memorization. I found his comments to be rude and discriminatory, making class uncomfortable. If you can help it, do not take any of his classes.

Reading assignments every class & classes are all discussion. Tests are not hard if you do the readings. If you don't speak up in class, beware! Participation is worth 50 pts. Konas can be a little inappropriate at times, but he's a really smart & nice guy. Listens to everyone's opinions and is fair. Do the work & you'll be fine! I recommend him!

He definitely has a personality, but if you learn to laugh at/with him its really not that bad. As long as you pay attention when you're reading, the tests are not as hard as people say. Awesome Professor if you enjoy literature!

Comment:
Really pompous. His way of guiding you through the material and making you learn is to critique things in papers that he "feels" aren't right. YOU WILL NOT GET AN A IN THIS CLASS! It's not difficult, he just has no consistant standard for grading. There is also a whole lot of useless filler. Actually learning anything is not a priority here.

This professor is tough. You learn a lot about literature and really get into the stories. There are times where I really liked the class and times I wanted to just lay down and die. His tests are very hard because he makes you know quotes for the tests. There is no study guide for any of his tests so you don't know how to study for them.

After reading some of these reviews, I was nervous but I ended up really liking the class. You must attend class and write a journal entry every night, 3 tests, and 1 paper. If you read the short stories and stay focused, the class is not difficult! He makes it interesting and he's really enthusiastic about literature!

At first Konas doesn't seem so bad, but after a full semester with him I'm frustrated by his grading (LOTS of points for little things and unclear about expectations) and his lack of demonstrating what he teaches. I like the material but he teaches in a really, really boring and makes disrespectful comments. Horrible. Don't take him.
