Comment:

Professor Black was very knowledgable, but her class lacked structure. Her lectures really had no organization, therefore predicting what was on the quizzes was hard. She does not take attendance, although attendance is needed in order to take notes. She's a great and adventurous woman, but I personally did not like her teaching style.

I had Prof. Black over the summer. Her classes are easy to understand and the information given is useful. The workload is reasonable, depending on the amount of students she may or may not use the textbook. Because we were not too many she let us take open-notes tests. Grades were fair. Attendance needed to get good notes. Videos are interesting.

had her for historical geo of the united states. like many say her class is very unstructered, and u dont really know whats going to be on the tests, that being said she isnt hard, doesnt assign a lot of work we had one test, one 5 page essay, and a long essay about a river. She is not that clear in what she wants but shes not that hard

I had mixed feelings about this class. Yes she was a nice professor, but the class had no structure. There is no textbook so everything is based off of her lectures..therefore even though she doesn't take attendance you have to go to class to get the notes. we had 2 tests (moderate), a book report (easy), and a clipping collection (very easy)

Comment:

Prof. Black is a great teacher, she makes the class easy to understand, and is very approachable. When she gives a deadline for a project she expects it kept, her tests are fair, and she also requires a book report. If you must take Principles of Geog. than take her class, she's well worth it.

I felt a little bit confused in this class. The paper was very general and broad but as the class progresses she explains what you need. Basically listen to what she says and use it as your guideline to help you. The final exam paper was very easy I got an A. hoping to get an A on the final term paper.

Great teacher, and I'm not just saying that because she didn't give tests or take attendance. She actually knew her subject, unlike some teachers, and you could actually understand her, unlike a LOT of teachers. I took her for a Gen Ed requirement, but if I was a Geography major, I'd definitely take her again.

Such a sweet, intelligent person overall. Professor Black knows her stuff and seems to be a very well traveled person. She puts out a world of knowledge to her students, no pun intended. Easy class. She wants to see how we can relate and put to use everyday life to geography and see the bigger picture. Definitely worth it.

She has the most vague grading policy I've ever seen; she says she doesn't want to tell us what will get what, etc. Currently hoping to do well on the project... If you can take a lot of observations down regularly it's a good class with interesting lectures.

LEARNED A BUNCH OF THINGS ABOUT THE GEOGRAPHY AND SOME HISTORY OF DIFFERENT PLACES IN THE US BUT THERE WAS NO FLOW FROM ONE IDEA TO THE NEXT IN WHAT SHE SAID. THERE WAS NO GUIDELINES TO GO BY FOR OUR PROJECT AND AM STILL UNCLEAR ABOUT WHAT SHE WANTS. WHY DID SHE SPEND A CLASS GOING OVER A HUGE LIST OF BOOKS THAT SHE OWNS? I AM STILL WONDERING!

Took her for a 100 level class, Not bad. Took her for a 300 level class, she turned into mondo ****. Her class has no continuity. She bumps around and has no point in her lecture. One night she read us a whole book list. We had an exam which was on a bunch of nothing and Portfolio Project with no outlines or rubric or infomation sheet to go by BAD

Been putting off a lab science and took it with Mrs. Black. If you can get past the fact that she treats you like a 6th grader, you'll love the class. She is very intelligent and really cares about the class and what she teaches, it helps to go to class plus she can tell from the portfolio. Very enjoyable.

Mrs. Black is very intelligent and polite. She shows a lot of videos to show you what the rest of the world looks like. No exams. No major projects except for a detailed final paper. You have to discuss your paper with the rest of the class, but it is very informal. She is very flexible. If you want a fun and easy class, take her.

WHAt A MIstakE!! i took her class at 830AM, she is so boring that i was never able to keep my eyes open, therefore, i missed more classes then i went too. the good thing though is that she doesnt take attendance. the grade is based on 1 portfolio, no tests. but very boring, hardly talked about geo.

Comment:

Very nice lady. Entire grade based on one portfolio & you don't have to put too much effort in to get a good grade on it. Attendance is optional, but she notices who attends & appreciates it (it'll help your grade). Plus the portfolio assignments are given in class. Overall, a very easy class, if not overly stimulating academically.
