She is temperamental. Practice your eye contact, doing homework, participating, seating in the front, etc -- she grades on effort more than on knowledge!!! SO, as long as you come across as making an effort, she will grade you higher than someone who knows the language and has stopped trying!!!

Comment:

Her style is very helpful for those eager to speak the language. She focuses on training your ear and having you speak as much as possible, no translation. It can be hard especially if you've never had French before, but she is always willing to help those that put in the effort. Beware she can be judgemental and sassy, you cant be thin-skinned.

I absolutely love Lia! The lectures she gives are amazing and engaging. Also, she is a really passionate about the French language and will truly help you understand French. I took her for 3 semesters now and wish she could offer more. The world needs more Professors like her.

she is a good teacher but I would high recommend knowing a little of French before taking her. She expects too much out of her students. She won't even let you look up what she says in french. like how are you supposed to learn like that. people who like her class took French in high school

Lia is a great professor. Her class is mostly conversation activities, and it's an easy A if you show up. She doesn't have a break in her 2.5 hour class, and she can be a bit blunt about your accent or about her expectations for the course, but she is always available to help those who are putting in the effort. Would take again.

Not for lazy people. Keep phones away, prepare to behave and pay attention, you must participate then you get good grade. Lia is a great teacher that wants you to learn the language and culture. Serious class for serious students that are supposed to study and be ready to speak in class. She is tough but she is by far one of the best I ever had.

Okay, Lia is truly a fabulous person. She is caring and sweet, but holy crap does she make me so bored with French! She shames students when they don't know the answer and only teaches super boring ancient French culture. Good at teaching grammar but only teaches old french that people don't even speak anymore! putain de dommage :(

Prof. Raileanu is amazing. She truly cares about her students and wants them to learn the language. She emphasizes participation and attendance so if you plan on not going to class or not contributing, don't take this class. Her tests are relatively easy if you study and ask lots of questions. This is by far my favorite class last semester!

The class was alright at best. She throws a lot of shade. She does want you to learn the language and complete all homework and projects in a timely manner. She will not hesitate to correct Mis-pronunciation and speaking in English instead of French. She does expect you to know a lot of the vocabulary by the next class. Take it for the easy A.

Lia is a very caring and inspirational professor. She organizes field trips, shows French movies, and brings French snacks. She likes extra effort outside of class. The class involves reading a short book, French poems, songs and vocabulary. There are a few papers to write for the final, but not too difficult. Drawback - lecture feels long at times

First, Lia is French and very proud of it. She may come off judgy, but it's never mean-spirited. She wants everybody to speak French at all times, watch French TV, etc. H/W is a must! She checks. Also, prep. to write a lot of papers and never toss them. She calls on people and has a steel bear trap memory about absences, texting, H/W, etc.

Prof. Raileanu is the best language teacher I've ever had. Don't pay attention to reviews that call her "rude". At the end of the day, she is French and her personality is quirky but adorable. She's an easy A, but is a pro at helping you understand the language. Make sure you print out all the handouts.

lea is like the sweet and sour patch candy. she's is the nicest but also very rude. you have to do the homework. you will not learn anything in this class. the plus side to it its an easy A. if you want to take french and learn this class is not it. but if you want an A sign up. she thinks France is the greatest country and thats that.

Lia is so sweet. She is unclear sometimes on what the homework is but if you miss it once or twice she'll just make you feel bad for a second then move on. If you participate and try you will get an A. She is very passionate about french culture and wants her students to be a part of it. This class is not for people that hate being called on.

in this class expect to be treated like a high school student. expect lots and lot of homework. It's possible to get A if you study 247 or if u sign up for the study abroad program in Paris. you are on your own in this class. don't except any tolerance for not doing homework or for doing less in it. I'll never ever study french after this class!

If you are mature, want to learn French, are willing to accept criticism, and if you do what she asks of you and show up to all or most class meetings, this is a fun class that you will be surprised at how much you know and can understand after. Lia is a good professor who knows the subject well, and if you do your part, you will learn a lot.

I showed up for every single class and participated. That's really all she asks for. Some people really didn't like her, but I found her funny. She will make it clear that she doesn't really like you if you don't participate, are absent and don't do homework. Since I actually have a desire to learn the language, I enjoyed her class.

Lia! If you have a real passion to learn French there is no better professor to learn it from than Lia. A true French woman herself she not only makes French fun to learn but encourages her students to apply it to everyday life. She's very honest and also gives helpful tips on how to retain a new language. Take her class you won't regret it!

If you have a real desire to learn to speak French then take her class. She is actually from France which helps tremendously. I loved her class and am planning to take this semester also.
