Dr. Burke is firm, fair and committed to providing a rigorous classroom environment that encourages a better understanding of the coursework. Interestingly, six of my peers began pursuing graduate careers in science outside of microbiology; we all use her as an inspirational reference. She has reasonable expectations for students and is quality!

Thank god she is retiring. Bruslind is a much better person, better teacher, and knows roughly the same amount of microbiology it seems as Mary.

Simply Terrible. Lectures hard to follow, many grammar and typo errors on ppt slides. Only way to REALLY be successful is to kiss ass from day one. If you can't commit to EVERY office hour kiss your chance at an A goodbye. If you're trying to balance other upper division science courses with this professor, may God have mercy on your soul.

Snappy, nit picky, and poor organizational skills. Unfortunate, because I like microbio, but Burke really made lecture unenjoyable & taxing. Plus I'd rather stick a hot poker in my foot than ever use Qwizdom again.

Just a bad instructor, even with over a 100% I think that a good professor could have taught the same amount of information better in a quarter as much time. Also moody, either very nice or real snappy.

Boring lectures, just reads from power point. Grumpy old woman at times. Questions are very hard because she tendt to change only one work so it's not true. Try to take Feild if at all possible.

From all the horror stories about Dr. Burke, she's not all bad. Sure her class is hard, but she's a good teacher. I learned WAY more in lab than I did when taking the lecture from Bottomley. She's helpful when trying to talk to her about questions you have in class. Just get on her good side to begin with haha.

I can't believe how many people don't like Dr. Burke. I thought she was great. She held extra review sessions and the tests were exactly like the homework questions. I took it in the summer - and she did say that the test format was different from the regular school year courses. She likes male students, that's for sure. Good teacher overall.

Horrible teacher that makes fun of students if they answer something wrong. Tests are messy like her notes. It is worded so only certain people could understand it. It is doable if you can read very well and memorize everything she presented and then some. Book is helpful but you need to figure out "BURKEIAN" before you use the book.

Dr. Burke is so mean! She is rude to the students when they ask for help and is constantly interrupting them. She is so unorganized that I have a really hard time following in lecture. Everytime I have asked her something she treated me like I was stupid. I would never recommend her as an professor and wish that someone else taught her class.

This was the most work I've ever had to do for a 3 credit hour class. She gives quizzes nearly every day and there are long assignments due every week. If you think you can get an A in her class without extra credit or psychic powers than you're delusional.
