Professor Levalley is so passionate about what he teaches and it overflows into his students. Not only are his lectures intellectually stimulating, but the discussions he inspires progress thought about free speech and ethics. If you have the chance, take a course with him. he is by far one of the best professors I've had at Mason.

He's personable, and he knows what he's talking about. But if you don't like group work, do not take his class. The only individual work you are graded on are your tests.

One of the best Profs at Mason. Despite the dense material he keeps his lectures interesting and utilizes documentaries to make sense of the material. You would think that a free speech and ethics class would be boring but it was anything but. His tests are a combination of multi choice/short ans/essay. Highly recommend Paul!! Great synthesis class

Group work, group work, group work -- all leading up to one big final project. It was a difficult class, but the book is great and even though the prof gets a little sidetracked sometimes, he is easy to understand and clearly states what he wants. Tests are outrageously easy if you know you have read the text and he provides study guides!

You get assigned groups on the first day and you're stuck with them for the whole semester. He doesn't give lectures and his tests are ridiculously long, and are worth nothing. Lots of writing in this class, and you don't know how you do since he doesn't like Blackboard, and doesn't give any work back, so you won't know your full grade till the end

Professor LeValley is a really great guy but is unclear in what he wants for assignments. He never returns any of your assignments so you don't know where you stand in the class the entire semester. He also doesn't use a rubric when grading papers/presentations, so you get what ever grade he feels like. If you want an easy A then avoid him.

I had him for Comm 380 and Comm 375. He makes class really interesting and I enjoyed attending. It's pretty much mandatory to attend though, and the notes he gives are what is on the test. Comm 380 is awesome, spend lots of time watching movies and TV clips. Comm 375 was a bit harder with a group project but fun. Definitely recommend taking him.

Paul is a great professor! The class is interesting but you have to go if you want to understand the concepts because he needs to explain them after you read the articles. The tests are easy if you study for them and the class is fun.

If you want to take Media Criticism, get LeValley; he is very erudite, but explains concepts in terms that everyone can understand. He picks material that is both interesting and topical, and the class discussions are excellent, as he and the rest of the class get engaged in the subject matter. Plus, he has a sense of humor and is understanding.

Paul is a great professor. He wants you to succeed. I personally thought the information in this class was very interesting. His lectures are very straightforward and he will explain if you do not understand. He is a very fair professor. This class can be very easy or very hard. You just need to study and read the articles!

Levalley rules. I had him for 302 and signed up for his 380 class. Theres a lot of emphasis on class discussions - he regularly opens up the floor for anyone to talk about things, but be prepared and say something educated and thought-out. He's got a great dry sense of humor as well, and his classes are really entertaining and informative.

Really dry material, but he makes Communication theory as interesting as it can possibly be. Talks with students, not at them. Has only missed one class in his years of teaching, and returns assignments promptly. Take him for 302 if you can.

I've had 3 classes with him and I think he's great! Really nice guy. He can drag on a bit in his lectures, but the class is really entertaining. The PR project is tough. Make sure you read the book and get a good group. If people start slacking in the beginning of the semester, kick them out. TRUST ME! You don't want to do all the work yourself!

Great instructor! Had him for two 3hr classes back to back, that was intense. The pop quizzes suck but arent difficult. Really wants students to succeed, rewards people that try even if they dont really know the material. Basically just try and you will do well.

This proffesor is outstanding! He really wants his students to understand the material in a way that relates to real world experiences. I highly reccommend. Go to class because most of the test material is from class discussion. Do not worry though, class discussions are awesome and fun! I took two classes with this guy!

Great Professor. He explains things really well. Attendance isn't mandatory, but going to class will make you understand the material for the tests. Also, I enjoyed the class because he is a nice guy and good teacher. Tests are semi hard, but my semester he dropped the short answer on the final. He wants his students to learn, not to do poorly

This guy is awesome! He doesn't pick favorites. He let's the class discuss and participate unlike other COMM teachers. He is so cool, he lets you know when the quizzes are and his tests are all based off of the discussions and key terms. Take this guy if you want to enjoy your semester. Do not take Nan Peck.
