Awesome professor and hilarious guy. His politics seep into class discussions, which I didn't mind because I'm a liberal nut like he was. Breaks down the material well, but the exam was brutal. Issue spotting was like looking for a needle in a haystack. But there is a decent curve, and if you study and know your stuff, you'll be fine.

Great teacher and is very entertaining. However his exam is very hard, it doesn't seem hard when you take it, but there is more in there than you would expect. He says read Dressler if you want an A. If you want a B come to class and pay attention. I didn't read Dressler but knew the material he taught solid, I got a B. Read Dressler.

Unique concepts are what makes this class tough. His essays have 3 issues. DO THE STUDY PACK. Almost all essays involves search, seizure, and Miranda rights. Know the definitions; they're not hard. He's easy to talk to if you're still confused.

Fun and intelligent professor. Great for a first-term law student. Pulls names from notecards and asks relatively easy questions. Lots of antecdotes. Whatever he says during last class review will be on the final. Memorize definitions he gives and apply on final and make sure to give both sides of argument with "on the other hand."

This was such a great class! He doesn't hide anything and makes sure you know what's on the final. Uses cards to call on people and will let you know a week in advance if it's your turn (I returned my book when I found this out). Very funny guy who's not shy about his political beliefs and acts like a typical defense attorney.

Nice guy, really enjoyed his class. I am a die hard conservative and needless to say he's leftwing nut, but he has a great attitude and sense of humor about everything including politics. BEWARE HIS TEST IS NO JOKE! VERY LONG VERY HARD M/C! STUDY HARD! I would definitely recommend though.

Best teacher ever...so funny...so easy to understand...amazing teacher who makes learning fun!!! Test is very fair -- he repeats what is important in class-pay attention and you'll be fine - in his class paying attention is easy!

I had Bretz for crim law and crim pro. I did much better in Crim Pro because i followed directions. I would take him again. He knows what he is talking about and uses plenty of examples to help you understand it.

If you are even in a situation where the only person teaching evidence is Prof. Bretz, make sure that you either find someone else, teach it to yourself, take it in another term, or just stand there and scream. Real good Prof. Knows everything about Crim Law and is very clear about how he teaches it. First day of class he says he is real laid back but his tests are hard; believe him. If he has a TA go to go the TA reviews they are so helpful. Got an A.

Going to class is easy and kind of fun, but he is really a mess in teaching the material (He's all over the place). His exam is very difficult, and he grades you tough. Essays are tough and MC are too. Can't recommend Bretz as a teacher, but he is the kind of guy I'd go out with and have a beer.
