Dr. Frye is one of my favorites at CSUB. His requirements are clear and reasonable. His lectures are never boring and he has a gift of stirring class discussion. He maintains a respectably neutral or even conservative position in sensitive discussions whereas some profs come across as left-leaning. He is very helpful and encouraging. Highly rec!

We read a variety of plays, taking a short answer quiz on each. There were 9 plays throughout the semester. There are very few essays, though youll write a two page reaction on each play. Easy work, just time consuming. You will also have to participate in class discussion.

Great lectures. Very intellectual, helpful. Simple fair class. 2 exams, 1 short essay, and a daily response summary about the reading for the day. 1st exam multiple choice, final is multiple choice with a 2 page in class essay. Just need to know dates of work, authors, quotations, and themes of each reading. Available for help.

Professor Frye is great! He is so passionate about this subject as well as teaching. He goes out of his way to be available and assist students. This class required a bit of reading, but nothing insane. Would gladly take him again!

Dr. Frye is great! This was my third online class with him. He posts weekly mini-lectures on a discussion board as well as giving feedback on student discussions. His lectures are interesting. He offers help willingly and promptly when asked. Be prepared to read a lot! No tests in the classes I've had with him and the papers are very doable.

Not an easy A, but not unreasonably difficult. I find the subject interesting, so that helps. Dr. Frye is very into it and cares a lot about his students. Very funny guy and keeps classes interesting. Encourages group work but doesn't overdo it; mostly discussion. I'd definitely recommend him as an instructor.

He's a very good lecturer and doesn't ramble much, in fact he stops himself comedically from doing it. Everything he does is reasonable test wise and paper wise. Even though his class was at a very early time he was an enjoyable teacher.

Dr. Frye is awesome! Just do the work, make sure you do ALL the work each week. There are several essays throughout the quarter, try to meet with him after each one to get his feedback, it's EXTREMELY helpful. If you do the work, meet with him, you'll receive an A, no problem.

This was an online class, so I only met the professor right before the finals, but he was very straight forward and helpful. His contributions to the online discussions were insightful, even though I'd read many of the works that were assigned (that happens as an English major!). I'd be happy to take another of his classes.

Super cool professor. His class was challenging and he pushes hard, but he's supportive along the way too. Extremely knowledgeable about the material (He wrote a book about one of the authors we studied for goodness sake!). He gives great feedback. I enjoyed an English class for the first time ever. I highly recommend taking his classes.

Wow, what an incredible individual. This man has inspired me to follow in his footsteps. He is passionate, soulful, and profound, modest, personable, and charming. His brilliance and vigor for teaching are palpable, and though he may demand that all materials be read (which are many), it is worthwhile without a doubt. Attend and you'll pass.

This class wound up being online. As such there was no real instruction. The class involved reading and analyzing. Good luck with the analyzing...you will need it if you are not an English major. I strongly recommend that this class not be taken online...if at all.

In my experience with Dr. Frye, I have come to understand three things. First, he loves teaching and he cares about his students. Second, he is very approachable and always willing to help or answer questions. Third, he is an honest, genuine person who tries to be your professor and your friend. I know that sounds a little cheesy, but it's true

I have always been a big fan of Dr. Frye's classes, but this one didn't hit me as hard as the others. First, I can certainly appreciate his willingness to prepare his students for teaching careers. However, he needs to realize that English majors do not automatically become teachers. Second, religion in a public school? Shame on you Dr. Frye!!!

Dr. Frye is really enthusiastic about his discipline, and his enthusiasm is usually contagious! It was a good class. He is VERY clear and helpful. He helped me identify the direction and angel that my papers were taking. He's very patient and professional. But, the class was really "thesis boot camp!" Good times.
