Doc is a great professor. He makes you work really hard and he is not afraid to make sure everyone does just that. He can be very entertaining but make sure you stay on his good side and always make it clear you care and are trying your best.

Doc is a phenomenal teacher. He is passionate about music and he knows what he's doing. Yeah, people complain that he's harsh and picky about quality, but he does care about the group and helps us sing and perform more cohesively.

Comment:

A great composer, conductor, and musician, but really expects a lot out of his performers. Is highly intelligent but eccentric,and can be difficult to work with. Is rather blunt but ultimately tries to better the choir. If you're really into choral singing he can help a lot, but be prepared for criticism, particularly if you don't try.

Doc is capable of getting us to sing evocatively. He is also capable at giving pre-concert peptalks that bring tears to the eyes. My only complaint is that on a daily basis, he comes across as unapproachable, although this might be due simply to clashing personalities.

Respect him, he'll respect you. If you don't, he'll treat you like garbage. Do the former and you're garaunteed to learn a lot, and improve your vocal skills 10-fold. If you're just a casual singer, his choir is not for you.

He's tough. But he kind of has to be to keep the group together. He's demanding and he expects perfection from everyone, but that's a good thing. If you're a soprano who is always flat, he'll make sure you know it if you don't fix your intonation. Don't expect to enjoy choir if you're just a casual singer.

Geez, doc is really getting killed on here. Anyone who has worked in more challenging musical groups would realize that he's not actually that bad. All musicians strive for perfection, he hopes to get that out of us. We have done some amazing things in the past and most of it is due to Doc. Stop whining about his criticism and sing better.
