Mrs. Parker can be scary, but she's actually a very nice person. Talk to her, tell her why you love music, ask her what she likes to play, etc. and she'll open up. If she likes you, you're golden.

I won't deny that Parker is a musical genius, but this course was painful. It's so fast paced that if you don't understand a topic fully or if you get sick & miss a class or 2, you'll be miles behind. She never lets up on homework something assigned & something due every single class. Also, her grading is non-linear & TOUGH. I barely passed.

Worst professor I've ever had, hands down. I loved playing piano before taking her class and she has made me want to stop playing piano altogether. Doesn't seem to understand that not everyone can play it perfectly the first time. The worst part is that she's unavoidable if you're a music major.

Do you love piano, and do you want to learn the piano in a constructive way in where you actually feel like you're making progress? In that case, please never take a class with sylvia parker. The University needs to lay this woman off as soon as possible, or at least hire more piano teachers, so that students with a clue can transfer out.

Quite possibly the most useless teacher on the planet. I don't think I would even classify her as a teacher.The worse part is you HAVE to take her class. UVMs too cheap to pay another piano teacher. JUST PLAIN TERRIBLE! I suggest dropping the music degree. its better than dealing with her for 40 different classes during your time in school.

Probably the worse teacher i have ever had. she teaches with the oldschool mentality that if its not done her way its wrong. her method of teaching is to tell you WHAT to do with out explaining HOW to do it, then failing you because its not perfect. she is a very confused, OLD woman who needs to retire from teaching.

She did not know how to sightread until done with grad. school, thus she lives vicariously through her teachers by giving us horrible grades for pop- sight reading quizes. She is a nazi and needs to calm down and realize she doesn't teach at a conservatory.

Piano is the hardest class at UVM. She is a hard grader, but likes to see students do well. Lots of Quizes! Great accompanist as well! Helps you sound great while still keeping the piece yours.
