Comment:

All I can say is that I tried my very best and put all my extra time into the course and wanted to pass. I failed (50% not high enough for pre-reqs) despite all my efforts, including reaching out to Barrie for help. I retook the class with Jeannie and I received an A. Barrie's notes are terrible and Barrie's attitude towards students is shameful.

I actually can't believe this teacher is still teaching!!!! I was so scarred after taking this class four years ago, now in nursing school elsewhere I am appalled he is still allowed to teach. Do something you love Barrie, we all know it's not teaching.

Such a horrible class to begin with. He is a smart man, but is horrible at teaching statisitics. By far the worst most stressful class. Did not feel comfortable askingfor help, and any questions I did manage to ask, hewould give you a weird look. Smart teacher but the Powerpoints, and filling in the blanks for a math class are such a waste of time

I ended up dropping the class within a month because Barrie told me he was going to fail me. I went to ask him for help all the time, emailed him for assistance, and I ended up more unsure about the work than when I started. His slideshows were small font and confusing, his examples and worksheets were ridiculous. I'm glad I left before the exam.

I really liked Barrie. He's a freakin' genius and a good guy. First year chemistry is a tough course but not because Barrie is a bad instructor. The material is just challenging. You can't coast through this course and get an A, but if you work hard, ask Barrie for help, and keep on top of things you can be succesful:)

Avoid this man unless you are a true genius. Mr. Turnham is the worst teacher I have ever had and I am well educated. Some people like him in more advanced courses. He publicly humiliates students and made grade 12 chemistry a traumatic experience. Chances are you will fail his course even if you are an A student. Earned my hard-won disrespect.

I can't believe this instructor is still at NIC. I took chemistry with him in 2003. Started with 32 students and had 10 in final exam. His labs never reflected lectures and his exams were ridiculous. He was quick with insults and made a point to embarrass people. I tried to warn many people about his inhumane teaching practices.

I missed a week of school because of oral surgery and when I asked him for help (in private) he proceeded to embarrass me in front of the class. I left in tears. I am now in first year Chemistry in a different school and absolutely love it. Worst teacher experience. He obviously wanted to be a chemist, not a teacher. They should let him go.

Barrie is a very hard teacher, not very clear presenter. He seems to purposely make chemistry hard for students. It was a good challenge for myself, I survived. Most classmates dropped this course. Be prepared to work hard and sink or swim. That's how it is with Barrie. People who do well in this course are devout chemies, and ASK QUESTIONS!

Got a D and failed in 2nd semester, absolutely worthless teacher. If half the class drops out, and half the class fails, and the average is a C. What does that say about the teacher. Oh, and he has only given out 2 A's in all his years of "teaching." Two A's. How he hasn't been fired/egged/something to be done is beyond me.

Absolutely the WORST teacher I have ever had. Lazy teaching style, doesn't care at all about his students, and has no idea how to explain ANYTHING. Just expects you to automatically know what he is talking about. WORST TEACHER EVER!

He obviously knows his chemistry, however, I'm taking chem 11 as adult upgrading and don't think it is appropriate to instruct as if we are university students. He talks down to students when asked questions and in fact seems irritated by them. Can be condescending.Displayed his stats of student grades and seemed pleased that students don't do well

Barrie wouldn't sign my pre-requisite waiver because I was a percent off the pre-req. I proceeded to take Mat 115 with another teacher somewhere else and got a 98% in the course. Thanks for the shot at proving myself Barry.

One of the worst teachers I've ever had. Did not have any interest in helping you when you ask questions, all he'd do is down talk to you and treat you like you were stupid. This man is in retirement mode, he's there for the pay check. He needs to retire already, and NIC needs to hire someone who can actually teach, or is at least willing to help

Horrid teacher, I thought he must hate me for some reason...but no he treats everyone terribly...how can NIC still let him teach...oh yeah right he is the union rep!!!! Come on NIC fired him, I got good marks because I paid a tutor to teach me and stopped going to his class, because all he did was confuse me....Chemistry is not that hard!!

I lasted in Barrie's class for about 1 week. I went for help and left in tears. Never had I felt so stupid, and been so humiliated. I left knowing less than before I had approached him. His job is to educate, not scare us away from one. He needs to be more patient and MUCH MUCH more understanding.
