I don't want to come across as a brown noser, but CBW was one of the highlights of my career at Guilco. She is tough, she expects more from you, she does expect you to be prepared for class. She is a test of fire those who persevere will come out better because of her. I never thought of her as condescending, just brutally honest.

Condescending, even when she is proven wrong. Did not teach a single class, had us teach by presentations, interrupted us with rude remarks, end of class. Her remarks on written work was rude and not helpful, yet she did not teach you what she expected. She took an amazing subject and ruined it with her attitude and lack of teaching ability.

Intense Professor! Very informative class, with interesting subject matters. A lot of reading! In addition to the 8 or 9 books there are several handouts to read a week. 6 papers and a ceremony at the end... Class pace is no joke and she takes b.s. papers seriously, don't do it. Know How To Write!

C is profoundly knowledgeable about the art of poetry and literature and cares profoundly for her students. I've taken two classes with her and they rest the most valuable in four years of studies. Her passion encouraged me to work hard. She expects perfection so step up - I got A's so it's possible!

This was an interesting class but HARD and time consuming with all the reading and many, many papers to write! Guilford expects you to be a superb writer @ graduation and this class will get you there. CBW will send you to the learning commons but it will help you excel in her class if you put the effort into it.

I wanted to be a writer from the time I was 11 years old, and Carolyn ruined that for me. I am up for a challenge and her tough assignments and standards were never the problem. Carolyn could be one of the most condescending people I have ever met, and to place more emphasis on proper citations than on anything related to writing is ludicrous. AVOI

Worst college professor in my life! She is extremely bitter, argumentative and tries to embarrass students. She asks for PERFECTION when citing sources! YES, she literally said ?You have to be perfect". She is not perfect so I think it is unrealistic she expects her students to be perfect. The work load is extremely overwhelming. I'm AA male.

Worse professor EVER. Inconsistent, overbearing, and impossible to please. Forced the entire class to get remedial help in writing, rather than actually teach us how to do what she wanted. This was a 100 level course, and she taught it like a senior-level course for English majors. Steer clear, folks.

She's a fine teacher, but really needs to stop letting her social agenda overpower the class. I took a class on literature, and it ended up being a class on the evils of slavery...and a damn one sided class at that. Had I wanted a class on this subject, it's what I would have signed up for.

Carolyn teaches literature too long left out of the canon, such as black female immigrant writers. She's passionate and knows her stuff. However, I dreaded her class because she liked to humiliate students in front of others, and berated us for being "timid" if we didn't want to discuss graphic sexual things from the novels. I still shake!!!
