Comment:
Professor Reynolds is a very intelligent music professor. Very passionate about The Beatles, and gives insightful takes on their music. He requires a textbook but really you only need to read if it makes it easier to remember the material. Exams are mostly off the study guide he gives, and listening quizzes are very difficult (the last is hardest).

I took Prof. Reynolds for MUS 106 as well and I felt both classes were truly fun and made part of my college experience. Unfortunately, Chris is moving on to bigger and better things but I just wanna leave this here to say he's still my favorite professor at UC Davis and is a genuinely cool guy.

History of Rock is an amazing class and I recommend it for anyone. Now if you're expecting Jack Black as a teacher, this is not him; but Chris Reynolds is something more than Jack Black. His lectures are very interesting and engaging every day and he knows a lot about the material. Beware, though: read the book to pass the tests!

I loved this class! I learned a lot and it also changed my perspective on music and its history and resulting cultures. Dr. Reynolds is kind, flexible, and understanding-- everything you'd want in a professor. I only wish he was more open to differing interpretations of songs, versus there only being one right way. Some memorization is required.

History of the Beatles is one of my favorite classes I've ever taken! It's a really fun class if you want something easy and chill. I really learned a lot about The Beatles and I have a new appreciation for them. We listen to music during class and we have 2 easy assignments (1 written 1 creative), 2 tests, and listening quizzes. Highly recommend!!

I'm in The Beatles class right now and it is FASCINATING. You really come to understand the magnitude of their influence and their musical evolution. I laugh at least once every single lecture and always learn something new, whether it's a lesser known fact about a certain song or a technique for listening to music more carefully. 11/10 -- take it!

UNCLEAR GRADING CRITERIA. Terrible teacher who explains nothing and then marks you down for it. He doesn't even seem to be that knowledgable about music history in general, just the few composers talked about in class, and not even then. Also an old guy so don't expect the power points to be any sort of help. Or to even be legible half the time.

Went into this class disliking the Beatles and came out really appreciating them. The beginning was a bit rough for me bc I typically don't care for pre 60's music, but I understand why he did it. He gives a lot of interesting facts and makes lecture entertaining. My TA was not a lenient grader, but I made out just fine, and I'm not a music major

He is the most incompetent professor ever. All these people who tell you Mus 106 is a fun class are just posers of rock n roll. Any real rock fan knows that do-whop and folk leads to country rock, and blues is only one influence in the grand scheme of rock. However, this man decided to spend half a quarter covering blues and the Beach Boys.

Great class. There is a(n avoidable) bias in the bands that he covered but he is extremely knowledgeable about whatever he goes over in class. Do yourself a favor and do go over and know the practice tests that he posts, most of them will be in the actual tests.

Chris Reynolds is a rock star! He's the head of the music department and really knows his stuff. Listening quizzes are comically easy (literally, he laughs during them because they are that easy). Super fun class!

Very understanding and helpful to all students, espeically shy ones =). Positive attitude about teaching has lead to a massive turnout in his class not only on every exam date but also on every lecture. Very approachable to talk to if there are special circumstances hindering students from submiting work on time. I had a wonderful time in his class

At first I was scared because he looked a little like Mr. Waddington (Shakespeare), but Prof. Reynolds is not a hateful man at all. He's very open minded, intelligent, and approachable. He teaches you how to listen without judging right away. If anything, I learned not to be so hateful of the usual hated music (you know what I mean).

There are alot of components to this class, so it keeps you busy with work, but very easy to pass with Prof. Reynolds. He is very nice, lecture useless, but the midterm and final were almost identical

Good Class. Professor did his best to make it fun-not that the material isn't on it's own. Grades were very fair. I would suggest attending lectures and discussions regularly.
