We read about 15+ books and this class was very reading based. I only recieved one grade the whole entire semester, and she is very unorganzied.

I originally disliked Tourino for the amount of homework she gave, but I have to say I learned the most in her class than any other class I have taken. She pushes you to the limit and if you survive I guarantee you have learned a lot. Probably would not take her again cuz of this but everyone should experience this before college ends.

Comment:

Christina is an unnecessarily hard grader. I put more time, effort, and energy into her 100-level course than my other 300-level courses and received the lowest grade that I obtained that semester. If you have the choice, DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. If you enjoy being stressed-out and feeling uneducated, this course is for you.

I started the semester thinking "Tourino is such a terrible prof. Her classes are so tough and she's the hardest grader ever". Looking back now, I believe she's taught me the most out of any prof I've ever had. Sure the class was difficult, but if you want to learn and better yourself for the future she is the prof to take.

Tourino really pushes her students to do their best in all areas of FYS! Her feedback on papers is super helpful and she wants to help you succeed if you are willing to put in the effort. I've learned a lot and grown as a person and a student because of our readings and class discussions.

Took her for world lit. Demanding class, but so much fun. I loved the reading/topics/discussions. She grades fairly, allows for re-dos, and wants everyone to understand and succeed. Very passionate about her work and wants to share that with others. I would recommend if you like reading.

Christina is HARD. Your dedication has to be flawless, because she will work you. However, I did learn an incredible amount. Make sure you are on the same page as her thinking, because it is really hard to get a good grade if you are not. Be as creative as possible, even if it's not correct. She loves that stuff.

If you don't like to write/read even remotely and/or you are already taking very difficult classes, then run far, far away. While she definitely challenges you and makes your writing a TON better, this class is extremely difficult. Discussions and topics are interesting, but the workload is frustrating and demanding.

She is a great professor. She's a bit of a tough grader, but will help you write your papers and develop your ideas. She's funny, but can be a little intimidating sometimes, but none the less is a great professors. Discussions always fun.

I love Shouse-Tourino! She can be crazy about some things but she definitely challenges you to think. She really knows each student's writing style and I've definitely improved. She is always helpful and more interested in what students have to say than what she wants to teach. Work hard on writing and you'll be fine!

Wow. She is a tougher. She is high on attendance, punctuality, consistency, and improvement. She is brilliant, and brings out the best or worst out of you... depending on how eager and willing you are to learn. SHE DOES NOT CURVE. You have to work really hard in her class to get the kind of a grade that you want.

Pushes herself like a maniac and expects students to do the same. Writings required for every class period, and students do half the teaching. Makes an already tough topic MORE incomprehensible; readings take forever and are usually tough to make sense of. Strict grader. NOT recommended for one of your first English classes.

A great person and very helpful if you ask. Expects a lot for class and reading load is typically very heavy. In class participation is weighted strongly and page-long writings are required every day for class. Only two exams that are both take home, though!

Really tries to make the class fun which she usually did, and she is a little out there sometimes. The work load was pretty intense, was difficult to finish all the reading every class just because of the amount.
