Comment:
Worst professor I have ever had. His lectures are terrible and make no sense. They do not help with tests or homework. Also if you go into office hours you will get yelled at for asking questions and ultimately get told you are stupid. For his tests he takes off for everything. If you dont write exactly what hes thinking youre wrong.

Basically This man loves math. Pure math. The issue is he is also the type to want things exactly his way (nice and old school) He writes too small and switches between cursive and print. The lectures are not entertaining nor are they useful. This class would still be fine if the grading made any sense (takes points off for ANYTHING!!!). Avoid.

Great man, but nearly impossible class for first time calc students. Tests are tricky. Writes in cursive, very small. Webassign homework problems are irrelevant most of the time to the class, but are still assigned to us. If you have previous calc experience you'll probably be fine.

He talks very quietly and writes very small so sit in the front of the class. Also, his lectures can get quite boring. Gives a lot of homework. A tough grader on tests and homework.

Dr. Herink is pretty much the worst! He teaches a hard subject and makes it pointlessly harder on purpose! you can't read anything he puts on the board, he rarely uses technology and his explanations put the world's most boring and long winded person to shame! Try to avoid at all costs!

Dr. Herink is a really nice man. Very friendly and approachable... however he teaches as if the whole class is on a high math level and everything is understood by the class. Little does he know, over half the class is struggling to understand what he is talking about. He is extremely unorganized, not great at explaining and writes too small.

Comment:
Dr. Herink is a nice man, but is way too smart for anyone's good. He is a professor who cares more about theorems than actually working problems, but you are still expected to know how to work problems. You never know what to expect on his quizzes(every Wed)/tests. I took AP Calc, but still struggled in his class. I would not recommend!

Comment:
While Herink is indeed a nice man, he is unable to relate mathematics to anyone aside from math majors. Myself, as well as roughly 75% of my class, had a hard time in the class due to his teaching method. he does not understand that not everyone understand mathematics at as high of a level. Many people failed that semester, not just in my class.

DON'T DO IT. He is very bad at explaining everything and even when I asked questions, I still didn't understand. His lectures are unorganized and I just stopped going to class because I wasn't learning anything. First B I've ever gotten. Bad decision. Don't do it.

He is such a nice man but not so much of a good teacher. 90% of your grade will come from tests(seriously 90%) I appreciate his effort in his teaching, it just does not translate well for students. Our highest test average for the the entire class is a 75 out of the three tests so far. Dont take unless you already know math.

Dr. Herink is one of the most brilliant people I have ever met. He is thoroughly excited about mathematics, but he does not explain the material well. I had him for Calculus I and I was forced to learn much of the material on my own or with help of the Student Instructor. I would suggest not to take him if you can help it, but he is not awful.

Horrible professor! He rambles on and is not clear when teaching. His tests are really hard and when you go in for help, he treats you like you are stupid. Do not take a math class with him, especially if you want to do well!

He uses proofs to teach. In other words, unless you are extremely math-oriented, you will have no clue what is going on in class. On the bright side, his tests are easy and he loves it when you ask questions.

The extent of his teaching is writing a problem on the board in a very unorganized way, skips around a lot and doesn't cover all the steps. He does stuff in his head without telling you what's going on.

Comment:
Everybody is commenting that he is boring, but I don't think he's the problem. The topics are boring. I like Math and I think its boring. I think he's a good professor. My only complaint would be he doesn't seem to understand that not everybody is as smart as he is. Sometimes I ask questions and I'm more confused afterwards than before.
