Comment:

I went into this class very excited to learn about the brain and the different mysteries behind it. However, it was the hardest class I have ever taken as an intro class. I put in so much effort to do well on the exams, which is basically the only part of your grade, but I still got C's. His lectures are boring and I do not recommend taking it.

Comment:

I thought Janik was a great professor! Very fun and makes the topic interesting and worth learning. Very clear in how he grades and what he expects. Intro Neuro is a intro class but it is heavy. I printed out the PowerPoint slides and it was extremely helpful. Be ready to put in a lot of time outside of class to study in order to do well.

Comment:

You can tell Janik really cares about his students and he is one of the most understanding professors I have had. I thought he was always very clear about his expectations for lab reports and as long as you keep up with textbook readings and study the exams aren't so bad. The one criticism I would give is that he can be a bit disorganized at times.

Janik is a super nice guy, and you can tell he's passionate about what he does. But let me tell you, the name of this course, "Introduction" to Neuroscience.. yeah no it is not an intro course at all. I took the class thinking it would be exactly that, just an introduction but this by far is the furthest thing from being an intro course. Very hard

Interesting lecturer and very approachable. Important to print slides and take good notes. Tests are multiple choice and short answer. Lab reports/research papers are worth a lot. He is a tough grader, but gives you a good idea what he is looking for. Easily, one of my favorite professors. You will learn a lot and the labs are fun.

Dr. Janik is adorable! He's so kind hearted and I love coming to class just because he's so nice. He is kind of unorganized and can ramble about things, but he provides very thorough study guides to help with the exams! I would recommend him.

Janik is such a nice guy! He sincerely cares about his students and you can definitely tell he loves being a professor. IDIS 125 is inherently difficult, but I thought Janik made it pretty interesting. Take notes from the lectures and study like crazy for the tests and you'll do fine.

Neuroscience is a tough subject, and Janik expects a lot out of you. The study guide will do a decent job of preparing you for the test, but know that they're VERY difficult, even if you've done a decent job studying. Labs aren't too difficult, and Janik is a nice person who's willing to help you if you ask. A difficult class but a good professor.

Dr. Janik is a nice, kind-hearted guy. However, he is by far the most disorganized professor I have ever had. His powerpoints were hard to follow, and he goes through them REALLY fast (I think he assumes that everyone prints out his powerpoints... I didn't). Lab is pretty interesting, not difficult. Tests often had material I had never seen before.

Funny, good, helpful, personable, and understanding guy. Tests are difficult if you don't spend more than 3 days studying for them though. Questions on the multiple choice tests are tricky. Interesting class and if you want to learn about neuroscience Dr. Janik is a good guy to teach you. Don't expect an easy A or B in this class though.

Janik is an awesome professor!! his tests are really hard and there is a four page paper due at the end of the semester on a book you have to read. the labs are fun and interesting and this class is great overall. I would totally recommend this!

I was a little afraid of Janik coming into class after reading some of the reviews on here, but he is a great guy, entertaining and very engaging with his students and will treat you like you're best friends. Yes, he expects you to learn a lot, but it is college. Overall though highly recommended

I took intro to neuroscience with Janik & Leland and I LOVED Janik. He was funny, very helpful, and willing to explain anything that was confusing. I'll admit this is a difficult class at times, but if you study for the tests you will do well. Quizzes and other assignments are not hard. Janik is a super cool guy!

I liked him during class, but then final grades came out. This dude wouldn't move my grade up which was .5% off because of attendance. Sent him emails about it and he wouldn't respond. Grade A ****.

Janik is an awesome prof! he is clearly very passionate about biology and teaching. very approachable too. Tests are hard, but it's biology, if it wasn't hard then any loser could do it. Read the textbook, go to class!
