Took his class first year (I'm 3rd year now) still rate him as my favourite prof. It's not slides or webct/CuLearn correspondence that MAKE a professor (tho it's helpful), but the ability to transmit knowledge, challenge/change blindly accepted views/institutions, & inspire future generations. Osabu-kle IS A PROFESSOR!

One of the nicest profs in CU. Not only intelligent but wise too! Some may have hated his class because they treasured their Western constructed view of Africa. This class challeneged this view of Safari-aid needing-poor Africa. Out of all the African studies profs in CU, he was the only one who taught it with innate passion. Sad he is retiring.

Inspiration, mentor, a true orator. Challenges our archaic views of foreign aid & development. Actually CARED about Africa. Gave us more than theories, he shared w/ us life experiences, African wisdom & proverbs. Funny how some say he spewed propaganda, HELLO! Uni IS propaganda, YOU draw the final conclusions. Shame he is retiring this july.

The best Professor I have ever had at Carleton! He is poetic, knowledgable and extremely intelligent. You will leave his class with a new perspective on the developing world. He is helpful with the everything, midterm, exam and papers. I'm only saddened I never took a class with him before. If you have a chance TAKE HIS CLASS.

Great Prof who know his stuff. Although he may be hard to understand because of his accent I believe he taught us exactly what we needed to know. His course was reading heavy but the readings were interesting and highly related to the course. Very caring and compassionate man.

Best Prof of my Undergrad without a doubt. Has amazing life experience that he then uses to educate the students. Is very old, and speaks with a thick accent, so many students glaze over and ignore him. DONT BE ONE OF THEM! Many accuse him of propaganda and not tolerating opposition, but he has strong sources and lots of research to support himself

He does not use a textbook because he already knows his stuffs. He is a very smart man, you can ask him any question on any topic and he will be able to answer you. He is very strict with students who miss classes, so make sure you attend all classes. Overall: Amazing prof!

Very bad prof. Don't take his class if you're planning on learning anything. His readings are pure propaganda. He loves superficial argument (usually based on word plays rather than real analysis). It's usually fairly leftist stuff but in a crazy uncomprominsingly unanalytical kind of way that does the left no justice either. One word: avoid!

Nice guy but his lectures were brutal. Used no visuals whatsoever, just rambled incomprehensibly for hours on end. Thought this class would be an easy elective, but it was boring and literally unbearable. Stay away.

An inspirational man and a decent prof. All textbooks were on course reserves (library) and there was a lot of reading, books were often unavailable. No lecture slides, and lectures basically summarized the texts. Class was unstructured and although attendance was mandatory it was often unclear when class or tutorial were being held/cancelled.

STAY AWAY. A horrible, boring waste of time. Despite the fact that this is a seminar class, he refuses to encourage debate, interrupts students, makes the same tedious Development 101 arguments that everyone already knows, recycles the same pointless metaphors, and has contributed NOTHING to my understanding of...well, anything.

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! He is by far the worst prof I have had at Carleton. He does little to no teaching and has his students do 2 and half hour presentations. He is also very biased. He is great at pointing out the problems in Africa but provides no realistic solutions to development. If you want to save your time and money do not take this class

Amazing & inspirational prof - will make you think about development issues in a whole new way. He really helps you develop critical thinking skills - you will never see 'development' the same way. Fairly easy marker so long as you do the work. I highly recommend ALL his classes. Quo vadis?

DO NOT TAKE A COURSE WITH THIS PROFESSOR. If you value your time, your education, and your right to unbiased and competent teaching, avoid this man. The classes were taught almost exclusively by students, the 'subject material' was pure opinion and his grading scheme was mysterious but unquestionable. He also seems to be going senile. STAY AWAY.

Comment:
The course is of poor academic and administrative quality. When challenged on his inadequacies, he appeases students by repeatedly promising them all an “A”, but then hands out lower grades to meet some obscure grading scheme by manipulating verbal grade components, which cannot be appealed. Students deserve better for their money!
