Basically the physical class is just taking notes from a lecture and then testing on the information. Tests can be pretty hard so study a lot. Also an online component called mastering biology based off of the book. Lets you drop lowest test score and write an essay to replace the next lowest so only three tests really have to count. Really funny.

Dr Ritter is a very kind man who cares about his class and his students. He makes his lectures interesting, and he always lets us out early. His tests are not easy. Although he tells you most of the things that will be on the test, they are very understanding-heavy. If you study hard, you can make it. He tries his best to not make you buy the book.

He was clear with what he wanted on tests, and will even tell you exact questions that will be on the exams during lecture. Take good notes. If you do well in the class you don't have to take the final. Go to every class on time and be kind, he likes respect. You do need to study though, decent amount of memorization. Labs are kinda a joke (easy).

Dr. Ritter is an excellent teacher! He teaches the material and specifies what exactly will be on the test. He offers extra credit as well. If you get an A on every test, then youre excused from taking the final. He also allows you to drop a test and replace another with a paper. I definitely recommend taking this teacher!!!

Professor Ritter has honestly been one of my favorite teachers. Hes extremely kind, enthusiastic about the course material, and somehow managed to make a full segment on membrane structure both fun and entertaining. Im genuinely really sad that this is the only class he teaches because hes an amazing instructor and makes you want to be in class.

Comment:
Dr. Ritter's class is structured well. There are five tests, four lab quizzes, and a final exam. The final can be skipped with 4A's on the tests. Tests are very difficult and require exact knowledge, but it is all in the lecture. He is very clear on what is going to be on the test and what won't be. There is a lot to memorize, but it is possible.

Easy A class. Gives plenty of opportunity to do well. Not very hands on. all content is available for each half of the semester of day 1 and right after midterms. easy to stay ahead

Probably the hardest class ive ever taken, i'm an engineering major so Bio isnt really my interest, but if you want to do well take Dr. Ritter and study very hard. No room for slacking, you will fall behind in a hurry. Great teacher non the less

Expect and prepare yourself for uncomfortable and inappropriate jokes. Also no homework, no quizzes, no worksheets in class, no questions you have to turn in so study hard. You get graded solely on test's alone. I'll give props for his real life comparisons to help us understand. Fortunately drops your lowest test. PRO lets you out of class early

He is so nice, funny and engaging during class. He will go over what is going to be important for the next test and will always tell you if you don't need to copy something down. He answers all questions to the best of his ability and will tell you if he doesn't know the answer. Never a mistake to take his class.

Amazing teacher but insanely difficult class. It was common for the test avg. to be below a 60. The course is made up of 5 tests, 5 3-page papers (which are basically graded on completion), 4 lab quizzes and the final. 1 test is dropped and 1 can be dropped with a 12 pg paper. Study lots and ALWAYS come to class. Hardest class here but it can work.

Expect short answers, diagrams, true/false, and fill-in-the-blank on tests. He formats his tests like so to make sure students truly learn and understand the material. He is also more than willing to talk to you if you have any concerns but make sure it's face-to-face or email. Dr. Ritter even lowers the grading scale to ensure more passing grades.

If you think he's too quiet, sit at the front row. That's what I do and I can hear perfectly fine. You can tell he enjoys teaching since he elaborates on plenty of topics, and even adores some of them (i.e., rubisco). Quick lecture? This is college. Students should expect heavy lecturing. Study like you're supposed to and get over it.

Lectures were terrible. We were in a large lab and he pretty much whispered while he was up there. Couldn't here a thing. You can tell he doesn't enjoy teaching. He also moved very quick through lecture. Also a tough grader. I advise strongly against taking his class.

Dr Ritter was my fave teacher. His test are HARD but if you can get prior tests to study you will be ok. He gives 7 tests, make 6 A's and a C and you will be exempt from the final! What an incentive. His lectures are long but hes funny and keeps you interested.

I have never worked this hard for an A. You can't pass unless you study. He's a very nice guy but leaves it up to his students to study and understand the material. His practice tests are very useful and some of the same questions are on the test. However, don't focus on memorizing the answers; make sure you know the concept behind the answer.

Dr. Ritter is a really good guy, he likes to make jokes during lecture and is always responsive and helpful to questions/comments. The class is tough, and his tests are tough. You have to study a lot for them, but you will definitely learn a lot. Didn't use the text book much, because it goes into far more detail than you need for tests.

Dr. Ritter is an amazing professor, but the course is extremely difficult. Definitely the hardest class I've ever taken. You have to know the materials EXACTLY to pass this class and there are a lot of memorization. Like others have stated, make sure you write down everything he puts on the board and study study STUDY.

I took general bio online with Dr. Ritter and it was very easy. There were probably around 20 quizzes before midterm that you do on your own time, then midterm, then 20 more quizzes, then final. You can retake the quizzes as many times as you want so you can get the highest grade. Super easy A
