This class is extremely difficult. Before I took it, it was explained to me by an older grad student as "holding on for dear life to the edge of a jet plane's wing". This couldnt be more true. You need to constantly read the book to keep up. Pixton is a great professor though. He is brilliant, and has a genuine love for mathematics.

homework could take up to 6 hours and sometimes quizzes on ridiculous days(mon and tues). The first few quizzes were easy, but then people start getting 0s and 2s.

I am BS math major, and for me the class is good, it's hard as it suppose to be and prof. Pixton gives great examples to explain things and tells you what gonna be on the exam, he didn't use text book for my class, and still manage to taught very well.

Very smart guy and a decent teacher. He assumes you know more math then you actually do but will answer your questions. The main problem with him is that he gets caught up in teaching theory but does not show you how to apply it.

He is a nice guy but a HUGE math geek. He teaches really fast so you can't slack. If you ask him a question, he will answer but you probably won't understand a word he's saying. I passed the class by two questions on the final (which is impossible along with every other test), so go to every class and do every assignment like I didn't.

Very smart and knowledgeable. A lot of experience teaching. Writes the tests so they are easier for people in his class. If you are decent at math all you need to do is go over the textbook if you don't understand something.

Does not give a syllabus. Does not have a consistant grading system (two sheets of the same work could earn a F and the other an A). Would rather give you the grade he thinks you should get rather than actually grade your work and give you the grade you earned. Avoid at all costs. Especially if you are female.

It's not that Dr. Pixton was a hard teacher, it's the fact that the Calculus 2 exams are all standardized so that all students will encounter the same exams. In terms of the class, it was A LOT of work and he often becomes VERY condescending. He is a big morale killer and grades tend to stay VERY low.

Does everything in his head so you have to be actively thinking in class. Doing problems in the book is a must. Clearly devoted to helping students. Has review sessions before each test. Watch out for series.

I'm a math major with a 3.6 GPA right now combined with BS in Econ and this guy doesn't know what he is talking. I managed to get an incomplete and hopefully will wait for a better teacher next semester. He teaches this course as if he's teaching grad students. Avoid, very confusing and I think he's trying to write a book on our back.

You must avoid this professor at all costs. Does not know what he's doing, the tests are utterly confusing because he makes the tests last minute. You're better off going to discussions and studying for tests with friends who know calculus. Tests focus on the beginning problems on each chapter, not the harder ones toward the end.

Terrible professor, the worst i've had so far. One of the reasons why this course was so difficult was the book used. It was written by another professor, and is useless. It didnt explain how to do many things, and left out large parts of answers for the review questions. If you must take calc, BUY A REAL BOOK.
