Professor Bowden is very fair & straightforward. Chemistry is tough but he was helpful even outside of class. I went to office hours & e-mailed him whenever I was confused with homework. I also used the tutorial center for help on a regular basis. To review for exams, really understand the concepts behind webassigns, recitations, & practice exams.

Bowden is a really nice professor and is willing to help you in office hours, however, his teaching style is way over your head and nearly impossible to grasp. I got a D+ in his class, but I'm going to end with an A with Petrovich. Do yourself a favor and just go ahead and take Petrovich. I guarantee you'll do exponentially better and learn more.

I should have taken this at the community college, Prof. Bowden is very tough and tests are awful, web assign helps some.

He's so confusing. Don't do it. Just don't do it. The tests are the same as the practice tests he posts but he gets very confused and always sends emails correcting all the things he got wrong in the lecture.

Professor Bowden is very helpful if you email him, or go into office hours. He is clear when you are 1 on 1; however, during lectures I found him going off on tangents a little often. If you read the book before class it helps immensely; READ READ READ

Knows pretty much everything there is to know about chemistry, but is not good at teaching it to students who know basically nothing. If you have somewhat of a base knowledge about chemistry you'll be fine. If you know basically nothing about chemistry, either be prepared to work or find another professor.

Dr. Bowden is a great guy. He is very helpful and always sends emails to his students for just about anything. Even though he has 300 kids in his class, if you email him, he will jump right on it to help. He isn't the best teacher, but if you read the book you should do fine in the class.

Bowden is an adorable old man and you can tell he really cares and is willing to help. However, his lectures can get a little confusing. The textbook is essential to passing this class, considering you have to teach yourself most topics. All in all he's a pretty decent professor and I don't regret taking his class.

His tests really aren't that hard and he curves anywhere from 5-12 points onto your final grade. As long as you sorta pay attention in class or read the textbook and do the hw it's not too bad.

Tests are straight forward and easy if you read the text book. Tests are also similar to webassigns and practice problems in the book. If you dedicate time to understanding problems you will be successful in this class. Also he curves from 6-8 points on your final grade.

Dr. Bowden explains things very well and has a well organized classroom. Buy the hard copy of the book right away and read it-the tests come out of the book. His tests are straightforward but can be difficult. He had an excellent curve on the final grade (~8%). Would recommend.

Even though the lectures are kind of boring, he knows his stuff. He's really nice too- if you email him he'll write you an essay. Do go to lectures, since the notes can be helpful occasionally.. Also get the hard copy of the textbook- I wish I did, it would've helped me a lot better I think.

I believe that Dr. Bowden was very fair and an over-all good professor. There is so much material to cover, he can't do it all in class! The webassigns are a very good indicator of what the questions are like on the test. He, and the Chemistry department, provide a lot of resources to succeed. Really nice guy and a fair professor.

If you've not a pro at chemistry coming into his class, beware. I was forced to learn much material completely solo because he assumes most students have had AP Chemistry or a fantastic background. DO NOT rely on the online textbook. Buy a hard copy from Wolf Print the first day.

A fairly good professor. He gets most of the point across in lectures but strongly advises out-of-class reading on your own time, which is a good idea since running off his lectures alone won't net you an A.

You are better off reading the book instead of attending lectures. The lectures are as unhelpful as emailing the professor. Class test averages are failing but he curves your final grade make it look like he can teach. Nice guy, bad professor.
