He is a nice guy but is just all over the place. This was a summer class (6 weeks) and we are already 3 weeks behind in material. He doesn't tell you what he is looking for and is CONSTANTLY solving the wrong problems on the board or using the wrong numbers which leads to the wrong answer which confuses everyone. Read the book and use Khan accademy

This professor is absolutely horrible especiaclly if you take him during internship! He lectures forever and the class is extremely boring. He does not teach well and it is hard to pay attention. He gives ridiculous assignments in class and out and his test are very difficult. He is not clear when giving instructions, you are basically on your own!

Dr. Ortiz is a very kind and understanding man. I have taken two classes with Dr. Ortiz and I will take a 3rd class with him next semester. He always responds to emails. The homework that he assigns is always relevant to the course. Work is not too difficult, but not so easy that you feel like you're wasting your time. Highly reccomend Dr. Ortiz

This is supposed to be a one-credit introductory to Masters Degree program class. It's a lousy 50-minute seminar, but he gives so much homework and papers to write. I really think he's doesn't know what class he's supposed to be teaching.

Granted this is his first semester teaching Diversity, but this had to be the most confusing class I've ever taken. He started off very soft spoken which, with his accent, made it almost impossible to understand him. close to zero explanation of the required projects and broken web links all over the syllabus. 2Self reflection pages every chapter?!

Dr. Ortiz is a nice man, but it is apparent this class is not his expertise. His lectures are dry and he never puts his expectations up front with his students. He grades easily, but you go into every assignment blind-sided because he never discusses them prior to the due date.

Greatest professor I have taken at UCF. His lectures are dry but the class is easy, he makes things simple to understand. 2 Open book examsHe is very lenient and helpful, easy grader, great manipulative ideas. TAKE HIM you won't regret it!

Dr. Ortiz is an extremely nice man who loves math. He knows his stuff, and I actually learned a ton of things that I applied in my classroom for internship. Dry lectures with some manipulatives, easy ideas, standard coursework, chapter summaries every week, internship assignments, and two open-note exams. Not bad at all. I recommend taking him!

I am in my senior year of college and have never had a class this frustrating. He knows very little about my major as th estuff he "teaches" does not apply. He allows studnets to continually talk while he is "teaching" which make sit very hard to follow him. I strongly suggest you do not take him! Grisham also teaches this course-take her!!

He's a very nice man. Very passionate and loves math! He had many great examples to give us in class. Using all of the manipulatives was very fun! Most enjoyable math class I have ever had, but it was boring at times because the work was so easy. I would recommend him for sure! The only thing I didn't like were the chapter summaries -too long!!

I thought Dr. Ortiz offered several examples of manipulative activities and other learning strategies that will be useful to any middle school mathematics teacher. Class was a bit dry and there was not a lot of discussion opportunity, but I feel I will be a better teacher after taking this class.
