I agree with the previous comment. She does seem very lost. Constantly changing what is expected. And seems to be marking what you think as well as what your writing. The class i took with her, she seemed obsessed with some McCandless guy. All the essays were based on him. she has really bad mood swings.I barely got a B. NOt a teacher to take.

Gillian is an alright teacher.I found that it was very annoying the way she would have her marks divided. She'd explain what she'd want for ex., the partication marks,and then a few classes later change what she had said,&then back.It was a bit confusing.She'd ask for a presentation, expect so much work for it&only count it for 5%.seems kinda lost.

Gillian was an incredibly motivating and interesting teacher to be taught by! She made class light and fun, and gave us interesting relatable topics to write on! One can't deny she was a hard marker, but she made me better! I'd definately recommend her. But.. do your readings before class, and attend!! And you'll do fine!

gillian is a good teacher but she is a hard marker. i had her for eng 1099 and i kno im not that good at english. but making the transition from highschool getting 61 percent with a HARD teacher to her was pretty difficult. she really nails u for alot. however, she has made me a better writer but my grade is def suffering as i hover around a pass

Marks you L(late)as well. Lectures can be boring and repetitive, will embarrass students if they look sleepy or out of it. Replies quickly to emails, but harsh marker. Preffers taboo subjects to anything. Most things haveto be done as a group,including apresentation. Not much work gets done with the group and cheaters ENJOY doing the group thing.

Very encouraging prof. I communicated with her throughout the semester via email and she was very quick to respond. Although English is a very dry topic she tries very hard to engage the class. I apperciated her being there to help all the time. Out of all the profs I've had she is sincerly the best! compare to other instructors she marks fairly :)

Hmmm. She's obviously smart, the topic of the class was very interesting, but remember high school? Ya, her class is just like high school, which takes away from the enjoyment. She hasn't learned to lecture yet. She tries though. Her marking is a bit all over the road too. Take her, I guess, before most other english teachers here though.

She is an excellent prof. Class itself isn't amazing due to stuff we learn but she tries. If you can write and listen, you can do just fine in her class. Straight forward tests, gimme marks etc etc. If you can't cut it with her, you are going to get messed up by rest of kwantlen english department. All in all, she is an interesting prof.

Comment:

Gillian is an excellent scholar, a great instructor and a careful marker. She spent her summers in Japan as a girl and became skilled with a samarai sword and the martial arts. She was a stunt double for Uma Thurman in both Kill Bill movies and sometimes demonstrates her sword tricks in class.
