Comment:

Very good at teaching how to get from point A to point B in the work, but then you're left wondering around to find point C. Exam is based on finding point C. Had the most frustrating exams ever because you can get halfway through the equations but then not quite find the variable he is asking for. It's like he expects you to run after crawling.

Comment:

In my opinion, this course if incredibly difficult. The prerequisite is one level of calculus, but I feel like you need more. There are only two tests, worth 40% each and homework. Only select problems of the homework are graded. The summer course is 3.5 hours long and he drones on from pp slides. His tests are unnecessarily hard!

Didn't use the text. Didn't have time. Studied for the two tests via class slides and referencing lecture slides as needed. Dr Flory is a decent teacher and make it a point to interact with online students (very important IMO). The class was tough but I felt he was fair in grading. 3 hour classes SUCKED though but it was a summer course.

Comment:

This class was one of the most difficult I have taken at ODU. Grading structure was 2 test for 80% homework 20 % no finial exam. Taught 90% of the time using prepared slides which he read verbatim. Two very long test one which covered chapter 1 - 5 the second covered 9 chapters. My class did so badly there was a 30 point curve.

Marked measurements wrong without offering feedback on what they should have been, lecture instructions were vague and the lab was consistently ahead of the lecture section. Wanted in depth analysis of material that had barely been covered. Very frustrating, did not learn anything from him.

Dr. Flory was always ready to help if needed. The tests were basically straight from the homework so there were no surprises. The homework sometimes took a while to do though. He randomly grades homework questions so you don't know which ones are graded until after you submit it.

Not sure how he got such a high score. He is by far the the worse teacher ever. I suspect he padded this these scores. As you get into the more advanced stuff, he does not appear he knows what he he is doing. If he does not like you, your grade will suffer. He grades homework, choosing only the wrong answers to grade.

Very good instructor knows how to really explain the material in an easy to understand way. Lots of note taking but that helps with HW's and tests. Would recommend have had for several classes.

Excellent teacher. Lectures are well organized and very well delivered. Tests are rather hard, but no surprises. This is not an easy class, but he does a great job. I highly recommend him.

Flory is one of the better professors in the Engineering Department. All you have to do is goto class, pay attention, and do the homework. Easy enough.

Really good teacher. stright to the point. He is really good at explaining things. take good notes and use the Mat Lab book for programs and you will be fine. Tests are prety fair too.
