Comment:

Avoid! Very little instruction related to actually writing python code. YouTube has better information. Assignments requiring Kolasa to manually grade, weren't graded. Did not responded to multiple emails. Assignments are consistently posted late. Consistently not available during 'office hours'. This class is a huge waste of time and money.

Comment:

Would not recommend. Kolasa is a very nice guy, but it stops there. Doesn't grade assignments until finals week, so you won't know your grade until it's too late. Spends lectures on C++ even though class is covering Python. Can't answer questions clearly and won't even take time to remember your name in a class of 10 people. I switched schools.

Never came prepared for class, just ad libbed it. He is very erratic in lecture. Gives history of his grad school,programming that is not pertinent. First program was a python program for a C++ class. Never took python so had to learn that in 3 weeks. Doesn't give a syllabus for class We are in finals week now and nothing is graded! Try prof King.

Never Never Never take a class from this teacher. If you want abandonment take a class from this teacher. He never responds to his phone calls, emails, or even shows to his appointed and scheduled office hours. His quizzes are mixed from previous courses given. I pity you and him if you are stupid enough to take a course from him.

Kolasa is very knowledgeable in the field. He's very willing to answer questions after class, and go in-depth on exactly what he wants out of an assignment. The class isn't easy, and shouldn't be. You're learning to program, and it's not just wham bam done. You don't need a good textbook for these classes, online resources are plentiful.

I can safely say that Mr. Kolasa is the worst teacher I've ever had. I took a Computational Thinking class online taught by him and it's a miracle to get him to respond to an e-mail. I hope he's a much better teacher in person than he is online or I feel really sorry for Bluegrass students.

I love this guy! First had him way back when Pascal was a teaching language, +20 years ago. He's a really good teacher and funny too. Highly recommended.

Nice, laid back guy. Knows a lot about his field, but as many posters have stated his quizzes are hard and over minute details and worth a good percentage of your grade; however, assignments are easy and due dates are optional.

Wonderful teacher and extremely helpful. Lets things slide and makeup work is always accepted. Book is useless and tests are kinda hard. he does curve the grades occasionally tho.

James is a great guy, hes willing to work with you to help you pass. I took 211,212,260,261 and 262 with him, and as the poster below says the textbooks are absolute garbage, and they get worse as you progress. Overall hes a good teacher.

Also took CIT 212, 260, 261, 262. He is a good teacher, and he knows what he is talking about. The problem I has with his classes are that the textbooks are very unclear. Also, his quizes can be very hard and they account for 40% of yor grade. It is easy to make a C in his class, kind of hard to make a B and very hard to make an A

James kolosa is extremely knowledgable about his field. However his quizes for the most part have nothing to do with the book. I recommend if you don't know a lot about his class material find a different teacher but if you are in the field then perhaps you should do pretty well. This class could be a lot easier then Kolasa is making it.
