Juan is awesome! I am a Spanish minor and don't normally hope for easy classes as I'd rather be challenged, but I was actually so glad this class was both engaging and also super easy because of my overall course load. I didn't even buy the textbook. As long as you participate and show up, the class is a breeze.

A smart, great guy who teaches a well organized and interesting class. Don't worry about scribbling down every detail and make sure you go to the class before each exam- you basically prepare for the exam as a class with his help and are able to ask as many questions as you have. Super great guy and professor. A gem.

This passionate, devoted professor would be an asset at any university in the world. His love for the language and his students shines through every day. Although I experienced some serious, temporary health problems, he allowed me to make up the work during vacation periods, saving me from academic disaster. Kindness and erudition personified.

Professor Maura is a distinguished scholar, a very good man, and a fine professor, all wrapped up in one wonderful package. His students like and respect him so much they learn a great deal of Spanish. The variety of media and subjects he uses in his teaching is compelling and always fascinating. Juan is great!He's super energetic and very interested in what he's teaching. Homework is 90% youtube videos - I literally didn't do any of the homework and managed to get A-s on every test. Very easy grader - just show that you kinda know what you're talking about and voice your opinion and you'll get a good grade for sure.

Maura is the man! Literally all you have to do on the exams is have a sense of what you are writing and there is no way you can get less than an 85. This guy is extremely helpful and funny. Definitely recommend him.

If you want a fun class at UVM, take any and every class with Juan. I'm talking singing, dancing, and lots of laughs. He is hilarious...nicest guy and he really cares about everyone. You learn a lot and it's not boring at all. No text books, Juan knows how to mix it up. AND he loves youtube. Youtube is the text book of this class. So great.

This class was so fun! We sang and danced to Spanish songs! I don't think I have ever felt so close to my classmates in any other Spanish class! But yeah, Juan is a very nice/fun professor who wants his students to learn in a way that is fun for them. No textbook, just readings from stories, articles, songs, and poems. Great professor and class!
