She gave me the foundation to learning in higher education. She gave instructions and examples that were useful to life as well as the classroom. I will always remember this never study in isolation, get a book before u eat because I will never be hungry. She broke the class down and used many books and other materials to get the point across.

Prof. Purnell was one of the most empowering instructors that I have had. She made me feel that I could accomplish anything, starting with nothing. I am now working on my Ph.D.

Well informed and imparts information with clarity. Teaches across academic disciplines. She was concerned about developing a fine finished product (students). My research skills were expanded in this class.

The best professor I've every had. She opened my mind and push me to succeed when I thought it was impossible. I love her spirit and her pure blackness. She is definitely a strong woman of color.

What I remember is we were required to get 6 books for her class, really didn't use them though. Lucky if out of all those books if I read 2 chapters. It was a waste of money to get all of them. She would ramble on about stuff too. She is an interesting person though.

VERY good teacher who pulls no punches. She's hilarious, but knows her stuff. I recommend every student, regardless of race, take her class. Unfortunately, like most of the good professors at CSU, she's not being hired back. :(

The best teacher you will ever have. She does not sugarcoat anything. If you want to learn the truth about African American history I recommend that you speak up to have her class reinstated.

Comment:

This class requires lots of research and writing. The tests consists of essays you write in class but she gives you exactly what to read and research. The best part is that you get to speak freely. People of color take this class, it's a must!
