He's such a nice guy if you go to him for help. He seems super harsh and tough at times, but if you show care and need some help, he will take you under his wing. He also has a ton of knowledge, and he won't be shy about letting you know it. Rants at least once almost every class. Some of his rants have actually become quotes!

Definitely an easy A. Do all of the homework and you're good to go. Didn't really learn much coming out of the class. Very poor communication compared to other online professors. Syllabus and due dates were recycled from last year and the professor didn't care. If you actually want to learn something about music I would avoid taking this course.

Comment:

Paoli is the man. Every lecture was interesting and informative, also filled with real life experience. He was a bit harsh at times. He expects to have a good understanding of the material to keep up with the lectures, so it's important to read ahead for this class. It was a very technical class, not what many would expect for a music credit.

If you don't know music, this isn't the class for you. Don't expect any help or clarification from him about anything. There's a weekly assignment and quiz which are both super easy. You also have to go to 3 U.S. music concerts and write 2 papers. Overall it's an easy A and he's an easy grader; just very rude and unhelpful.

He's a really great teacher. He has a lot of knowledge and has experienced a lot. I learned a lot about music from him. You will have to sit through some rants, and by some I mean pretty much everyday! You do need to know your stuff, so study and take notes and you'll do fine.

Paoli, while making sure that you understand the fact that he is much larger, stronger, and more successful than you, is great. He speaks from his experiences and is always ready to answer the students' questions. Paoli knows what he's talking about in areas ranging from business to personal finance. He lets you decide how well you do. Will retake.

Need the book, might as well teach yourself... he's pretty self centered and only interested in himself. his grading scale is pretty ridiculous. a C is 78-85% anything below 70 is an F. Attendance not needed, but just teach yourself and save yourself the hassle of hearing him talk about money and himself. #mrkrabs

I love Dr. Paoli's class! I took both of his recording technique classes, and they were the best classes I've taken! Some people may dislike his rants, but I found them interesting and informative. They helped break the class up and keep things interesting. As long as you show initiative he's very willing to help you, and grades things fairly

Paoli's class was broken up into two halves. For the first half, he'd teach/explain the material fairly well. For the second half, he'd rant. Don't be intimidated by him. He's actually willing to answer questions for his students, you just gotta ask. One knock against him is he gave me a C despite being less than a percentage away from getting a B.

Do not take if you're just looking for easy Music class. Tests are inconsistent with textbook and lecture. Entire class is 50 min powerpoint. Very little to help you personally. Better chance passing if you only read the book. No required attendance. HIGHLY RECOMMEND you take this in second year of theory and aural skills. Required for AFA. Hated.

Mr Paoli was okay. Took this class online. pretty easy, i had an A the whole semester. he is kind of rude when he responds to emails like he words things in a way that makes it seem like ur an idiot for asking. other than that the class was fine

He hates commercial pop music and told me to explore more artistic music. He knows anything you need to know about music, trust me anything. Every question i've ever asked him he knows what the problem is or how to trouble shoot it. Very experienced and smart. He's absolutely crazy yet so great. hands down best professor ever.

I took online class and when I communicated with him I was ignored or got one word answers. Felt like a second rate student. BTW I rcv'd an A so this review is not based on any dissatisfaction in my grade just dissappointment the quality of teacher I am paying for. No feedback on essays or quiz. Could not be any more disinterested in his students.

Honestly the worst teacher Ive ever had. Does nothing but brag and talk about himself. He thinks hes funny and tells the class that they suck all the time. Not helpful at all and isnt really clear with directions. He knows the material 100% but he cant teach it for anything. Im literally paying money to listen to him tell us how bad we suck.

Comment:

Awesome teacher. People complain about him only because of their own insecurities. If you think you want to have anything to do with commercial music, he will make you decide whether or not you will be able. He will also teach you valuable recording techniques, that is, if you listen.

Worst teacher I've ever had in my life. He will start off class by telling you how much he hates music. He was a sellout musician all his life and will only teach you about his life stories, which will definitely put you to sleep. His class is twice as boring as he is and the value of it all is worthless. Save yourself now if you can.

Paoli is a tough cookie and he knows his stuff. I find his sense of humor refreshing and his philosophy of "Be a master at everything you do" is challenging. I would recommend taking his class because you could learn a lot if you're not messing with the computer while he's talking.
