Although Dr. Brilakis likes to jump subject to subject during class she is a brilliant woman. You MUST study if you want to pass her tests, she has easy access to the study guide online. She keeps it real and she is hard in my opinion. Tests are always open-ended answers . STUDY STUDY STUDY and you will pass

Prof. Brilakis is the best teacher I've had at NOVA! Her class is homework-free, so your grade comes completely from tests, but she gives all the questions that are on the test ahead of time. I had her for both 101 & 102 and she gives really excellent, really funny lectures. Highly recommended!!

Please don't take her!!Tests are worth everything, the tests are all open response. They're not multiple choice, you have to be incredibly detailed in what you write or she will take off half credit. I have studied for this class for countless hours just to get a C.... They'll be 7 questions but you have to write a page for each, to barely pass.

Fantastic professor, goes out of her way to offer any and all help she can. Not much for homework, hold for lab reports. Very passionate about biology and helping her students understand science basics. Condenses material efficiently while trying to accommodate all students. If you have any questions about subject matter, she will help. Highly rec.

Prof. Brilakis gives you EVERYTHING you need in order to pass class, including notes, review questions, her website, and her email that she always responds to. She does want you to learn. Her tests require studying because you have to incorporate the full details on what you understand of the concept, in other words, there Is no multiple choice.

The test questions are given to you a head of time, but the answers have to be very specific. I spent 2 hours a night studying, knew all the information, but because I used words she didn't like, or didn't emphasize answers, I failed tests. She's a harsh grader and very specific, yet not specific enough. Probably would avoid taking her class

She is an awesome teacher! Her test are free answer and tough if you dont study you're screwed, but you can draw pictures and describe them so it feels kinda like art class. Strict person military so be on your toes.

She's a great teacher, but she does not make the learning experience easy for those who have to take the class and is not interested. If you like science and biology, she's your teacher. Her tests are essay based which, no matter how much you study, if you are not a wordy person, you will fail. She wants paragraphs for each answer. Good Luck.....

She's a very nice professor, her teaching style is great. However, she is an extremely tough grader. All her tests are essay based so you really have to know the concepts and not just memorize definitions. She does give a lot of small extra credit points, like a point for this, .25 of a point for that.

This class is not an easy A by any means. Her tests are challenging, but if you prepare ahead of time, she will go over the questions to her tests with you after class (I did this before every test). If you're willing to put in the work, I highly recommend taking her, as she made what I consider to a boring subject, interesting for the class.

She's a VERYstrict grader! This is the reason why many fail her class. She will take off a lot of points on her test if you don't give her a full answer. Her teaching style is good, very clear, but her tests are hard. That is all your grade consists of- tests no homework, no extra credit. I would not recommend her if science isn't your best subject

I understand the reasons for her style of testing, but I find it quite cruel for a 300 level course. Perhaps i may have had a better experience if she followed the book at all. Instead we were given an HTML website and a lot of links and diagrams. It's quite biased by learning styles, which she swears by. If only she included the textbook...

My main issue with mrs.Brilakis is her test style. The way she teaches her class doesn't neccessarily translate well into the style of testing she incurs upon the class. Standardized testing is the lay of the land like it or not and the deviation from such testing is not in such a manner to propell our careers especially in an upper level course.

She easy and nice. It is very difficult to get an A because she expects so much on quizes. We had 5 quizzes, no midterm or final and our questions were given ahead of time. She is very nice, and if you care she'll try her best to help you out. I recommend her if you are one to study and show up for class.

She is by far my favorite professor at NOVA. I hate bio but she made is interesting and broke things down into "idiot terms" for me. She is very enthusiastic which helps a lot. I also had surgery mid-semester and she was very helpful to not let me get behind. Her tests are hard, but fair. It is not for people who are lazy.

Professor Brilakis definitely has her own way of teaching. She has a very low Bulls**t tolerance, but as long as you show up and pay attention in class, you'll do well. She uses fun examples in class to explain the material, and is very much a morning person.

I truly didn't expect for Bio 101 to be this difficult. I felt like the majority of the material was way over our heads.Different teaching style. All test are essay. Most of the time she gives the questions ahead of time. You can't cram you have to study for at least 1 week ahead of time. You can pass but its not an easy A. She doesn`t go by book.
