Comment:

Environmental Policy class, the best I have taken. You have to listen to Dr. Starik a little closer than other professors, as he is always challenging the class to think deeper. Took me awhile to get it that he likes to debate issues and will seem very one-sided on purpose, to get you to respond. He rates class discussion very highly.

If you want to waste your time take this course or any other of his. I learned nothing and the class is a hodge podge of guest speakers and taught by the class. You read way too much of books that hardly have anything to do with the course. His grading is subjective to how much he likes/dislikes you, so kiss his ass. He is nice, but unreachable.

Nice enough, but definitely picks his favorites. Workload is a bit heavy with few guidelines (which is hard when writing a 20 page paper). You gotta be green to stomach this course.

Mark is good at designing interesting courses, and the courses allow for you to engage the material as much or little as you wish. The big negative is that he is very bad at in class discussion. He doesn't realize it, but he almost never engages perspectives outside of his own in class.

If you refuse to look at both sides of an issue, you're not teaching, you're preaching, which is all this guy does. You can't see further than 10 feet in his class because of the incredibly dense smug cloud that hovers over him. His class recently got cut from 7 weeks to 3; it's still 3 weeks too long. Be prepared to learn absolutely nothing.

Professor Starik is the most helpful advisor I've ever had, either at the undergrad or grad level. I emmensely appreciate having Professor Starik as a mentor. And his classes are very helpful too. He's a class-act.

Awful. Patronizing, pompous, patently unhelpful. Rude, condescending, obnoxious. Need I go on? Readings are fine, but this is NOT an environmental policy course, it's a course for Starik to talk about how we should all be vegetarians and go green asap. I'm an environmentalist, and this Starik is exactly why the movements gets a bad rap.

Enough said, Mark Starik is world famous & legendary here at GWSB. Yes, Mark isn't the best lecturer out there, but that's not his add value... His course is chalk full of various pedagogic styles, but the class is only as difficult or enriching as you make it! Simply put, you'd be an idiot to pass up on this opportunity!

Nice guy, but learned very little. Reading was helpful but far too front-loaded, and class discussion was FAR below par for a grad level course. He didn't encourage or challenge us on discussion AT ALL. Was very disappointed. Nearly turned me off from SMPP altogether!

Starik did not allocate enough time discussing the assigned topics and he did not give any real or hypothetical case studies to force students to apply theories. Many students felt that hey learned more from the bok than him. His bias against traditional energy is strong. Class didn't meet for four weeks so we could work on projects.Easy grader.

Took his course a few years ago. Very helpful professor and diligent, too. I would rate him much better than his colleagues in the Strategic Management Department.
