Heston is an incredibly smart lady who loves her field. It takes time to adjust to her lectures as they tend to be drier. This is because she doesn't care about entertaining you and the topic is relatively unpopular compared to Impressionist/Renaissance art. From talking to others, it's either hit or miss. You'll either love or hate it. I loved it!

Insanely boring. Teaches and grades as if this is a 300 level class. You'll be staring at the clock every second to see if it's time to leave yet. Grades very unreasonably on tests. I got an 80 on a test and I wrote every. single. word. of the notes onto the cheat sheet, so that should give you some insight.

I took ARTH 103 back in 2015 with Dr. Heston which really helped prepare for this course. Ill actually be taking my senior seminar with her next semester. If she knows youre in it for the long haul she will work with you. Ive been sick the majority of the semester thus far and shes been extremely understanding. Its tough love with her.

If you want to loose your sanity take this class. She gave us and essay due the same day as our final. Literally worked on the essay for so long I barely got to study for final. About to walk to class and fail. Took this as a Gen Ed and it is probably gonna make me loose my scholarship.

She's rude and unfriendly. She would mark question marks on my paper as if I didn't know what I was talking about. Absolutely no feedback, if you don't use the exact wording, she marks it wrong. If you go to her office hours and ask for help, she'll tell you to put in more effort. I worked so hard in this class and only made a B. DO NOT TAKE.

Tough tough teacher. This is one of the hardest classes I've ever taken. Consistency is key here. Read every night and you will be fine. If you fall behind expect to see the outcome. She assigns two papers. One an exhibition catalog and another a response paper. Three tests. All pretty moderate.

Lectures are boring and not interesting. She does give a cheat sheet and grades fairly, but is disorganized. Gave out multiple essay guidelines but each had different instructions. Only gave us a week to do two long papers (6pages). The artist lists given out were not helpful. Books were not needed for class but the essays were dependent on them.

Very condescending to her students to the point where you don't want to speak. Spends too much time regurgitating info we already learned. Didn't read once. Just took note of the exact words she used to describe pieces. Gives a cheat sheet, but the tests are overwhelming for an intro class. Disinterested me in the subject :(

This material had potential to be interesting, but was shot down by her being monotone and blatantly condescending. The lectures are extremely unclear and hard to follow. Pieces you are expected to know for exams are in power-points without the title or artist alongside the same word spelled five different ways in five different slides.

This class is really hard. The class subject might have been somewhat interesting if the teacher was not blatantly rude to the students. She is not only boring but overall not a kind person. Take this class with caution and not if you are interested in an easy A.

I had no interest in this class before taking it but Heston really got me to enjoy the subject. She was really straight forward and if you took good notes and studied ahead of time for tests you were golden! And now she lets you make an entire page for a cheat sheet. She is a total sweetheart and I hope to have her again. TAKE GOOD NOTES!

She literally wants you to regurgitate all of her opinions on tests (whether you agree with her analysis or not). Didn't put up power points (with the pics we needed to study) til day before 1st test. Office impossible to find and she's never there. Pointless to read books. Passed because I took notes on laptop. Lets you make cheat sheets for test.

I read the comments on this site before taking her class this past semester. I thought "well i love Art history, i can surely get through it". boy was i wrong. She is very very picky about everything in exams and papers, and she will minus your grade generously if everything isnt perfect.dont fool yourself into taking her classes

I ended up withdrawing from the class because I literally could not stay awake during her lectures to save my life. VERY boring and as a result very difficult as well since the tests are mainly made up of lecture material. Plus, if you don't already know a lot about Indian culture it's extremely difficult to keep up with pronunciation.

As a major I found this class really hard. A plus is that Heston explains each concept well and she is helpful in responding to emails. However, her tests are reallly difficult and she expects you to explain things exactly like she does or it's wrong. Definitely not an easy A and its taught like a 300 level, not an intro course

DONT TAKE ASIAN ART. This lady is BY FAR the MOST boring teacher in the Art History Dept. Being a senior, I feel like this has the req's of a 300 level course. She is too serious about AsianArt and gives low grades for anyone who doesnt show as much enthusiasm about it as she does. Shes so boring I can hardly keep my eyes open. HATE her/the class!!

She knows more about her subject then I believed possible. Even though it was an intro class, it was taught as though it was a 300 level course. For some reason I failed. Would not recommend.
