Comment:
Dr. Marone is perhaps the inverse of the saying: Those who cant, teach. While he is a respectable member of his field, has worked for NASA for years, and is a conservative believer in grades reflecting the work put in, his teaching style is inadequate. I felt so dumb in a class where the teachers inadequacy was simply projected on me.

One of the toughest professors I've had at Mercer. Also one of the worst attitudes I've seen in a professor. He likes giving live demonstrations which are interesting, but this would probably be the only positive experience I had in his class. Little to no HW, but be prepared to read a LOT. Quiz every Friday. Exams are insane. I wish you luck.

Ehh he is all right, he isnt awful but he isnt amazing, he knows what he is talking about but if you arent mathematically inclined you are going to have a rough time. If you are willing to listen to some sarcasm and speak up anyways youll do fine.

You can tell that Dr. Marone really cares about his students learning, but he isn't the best at preparing you for exams. If you don't know physics previously, it is gonna be tough. That being said there isn't much homework. The exams are hard and you have to study the textbook. He relies on the textbook heavily during lectures.

Dr. Marone is probably one of my favorite professors so far. He clearly loves his subject and he has a lot of experience and credibility in the field. My only fault is that it's difficult to find resources out of class if you can't understand the material or calculations, which is why I dropped it. However, if you can, definitely take his class!!!!

I was told how awful Dr. Marone was before taking him. I believe those critiques but I think he has improved a lot. I think it bothers him that the students on here think so negatively of him. Sarcastic but he cares. If u have an average understanding of math an A is very do-able. He loves astronomy, humor him and act somewhat interested. -Tunde

Dr. Marone used the textbook as a crutch and put absolutely no effort into teaching. He would put problems on tests that nobody had seen before and had nothing to do with the material gone over. There were problems he told us nobody got right, and continued to laugh at the class for not understanding what he did not teach. YOU WILL TEACH YOURSELF.

He is very condescending. He expresses his disappointment in the class every time we have lecture. He even gives handshakes to those who receive A's when returning the exams. I feel like I learned very little and it would have been helpful if he told us what problems to expect on the quizzes. Very hard class.

He's literally a terrible professor- he's not clear at all about labs and his lectures are not helpful to the tests. Over half of his astronomy class fails EVERY TEST. DO NOT TAKE ASTRONOMY AS YOUR SENIOR SCIENCE CREDIT. YOU WILL NOT MAKE IT.

He's a really lecture heavy teacher with terrible people skills. He's very particular about a lot of things and is incredibly rigid. I would consistently be confused in his class because he explains things as though you're to know exactly what he's thinking. He also expresses quite vocally his disappointment in the grades given and the students.

The class is harder than it needs to be. He loves Astronomy and gets really agitated when you don't love it too. He doesn't go over the math much, which isn't good for those taking this class to avoid hard math. Also, he has a tendency to make underhanded comments when you don't do something the way he wants it done.

Don't take him. You will regret it. There were a little over 50 people in the class, in the beginning. 15 after the second test.

Worst professor but kind of a nice guy outside of class. He basically scolds you everytime you come to class over not knowing information that he hasn't even taught. Doesn't teach, just points at examples in the book. If you don't have any background in physics DON'T take him.

GET OUT WHILE YOU CAN! He has no office hours. Emails you back AFTER you needed the info. Has something covering office window so you can't see when he's in there. Takes FOREVER to return labs and tests. Miss 1 question on quizzes and you fail them. Very sarcastic. Says tests are easy after everyone in class failed. Talks about astronomy CONSTANTLY

Let me begin by saying that Physics at MU is self-taught, no matter WHO you have. I think that is the diffculty for most students. Marone reiterates what he expects you to already have read in the textbook prior to class. If you do that, you should be FINE. He is, however, a stickler in lab. Otherwise, VERY fair and VERY helpful.

Dr. Marone doesn't deserve the bad rap he has. His exam questions come from example problems (which he goes over in class), Web Assign, and practice problems he puts online. Seriously. He just changes the numbers. He's tough on lab reports, but helpful and friendly in lab.

Nice professor, willing to help students if they seek the help. Very knowledgeable. Tests are the hardest part of the class, but he will tell you in class what he expects from you. Take notes on everything he does on the board, as they will likely be on the test.

Awful! By far, the worst professor that I've ever taken at Mercer. Degrading and egotistical are the two words that describe him most. Go anywhere to take Physics II, anywhere that doesn't include Dr. Marone!

Tests are a breeze... If you study. Notice how I said, "if"... you really have to know how to work each problem, inside and out. Not just the answer but why its the answer. If you get it, 90's on tests are easy enough. But then again, don't get anything wrong, errors are costly, very costly. Read the book btw...

Marone was the most discouraging and hardest professor I've ever had. He told everyone that they would have a hard time passing and they should change their majors if they couldn't pass his class. He couldn't find an SI that was good enough for him, and only had one office hour a week (if he showed up.) Tests are extremely hard. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
