Tests are hard! Grading based on a curve can be deceptive!! If you have a choice and need to take genetics, take another professor. That is my best advice.

Had her for 4 classes (basically everything she taught). Love her, LOVE her. Her tests were hard, but lecture based, and the curve was super generous. She's dry and hilarious, but speaks in a monotone ala Ben Stein. So her voice might lull you to sleep, and then you'll miss the most awesome/wrong/dirty joke ever.

Muriel Nesbitt is the best professor that ever existed at UCSD. I had her for 4 classes and got an A or an A+ in every one. She helped me get into medical school and figure out what I want to do with my life. Also, she is hilarious. Sarcastic, cynical, and way to the left, just like a bio professor should be. Does anyone know where she went?

My choice for 1st or 2nd favorite professor at UCSD. I took every class this woman offered while I was there. She is not going to give you a warm, fuzzy feeling, but she is a great teacher with a wicked sense of humor. And you will learn from her.

Tough genetics professor. Very thorough and cracks jokes here and there but if you want to get a good grade and actually comprehend the material, take it with someone else.

Professor Nesbitt is very good! Her lectures are clear and concise. She also provides a short reader so that you don't have to go through the textbook. Her class is extremely math-based so be prepared! Exams are VERY hard, with a series of questions having to do with one another so be careful not to make a stupid mistake because it WILL hurt you!

I took this class in the summer, it was fast and challenging but also very do-able. Open note and open book tests were really helpful. I would recommend making a formula sheet. If you need help, go to as many sections as you need to in order to understand. Also, do the homework and practice midterms and finals. If you work hard, you can do well.

I was so sad when I heard she was retiring. Although she's still teaching in summer session, so I would highly recommend taking her (it's worth losing out on a few rays of sunshine). I had her for BICD 100 & 136, and she really teaches you things. That was 2+ years ago, and I still remember it all!

hard genetics professor. Multiple choice exams go from A-P. Do not take genetics with her if you want to get a good grade. I wish i did.

Least expensive BICD 100 class (only need to by the $12 reader) yet probably the toughest BICD 100 class. Very challenging/ thought provoking class, but as long as you did the reader and test problems, you were prepared as anybody else would be. Shame she's not teaching any more, because her class, and I can't believe I'm writing this, was fun.

Nesbitt was such a great professor. Just like everyone else said, she was clear, concise, and her workbook was amazing...straight to the point. I loved the way she taught. I liked the way she snuck in jokes here and there. They were hilarious. Lecture kept my attention.

Wonderful professor. Very interesting material. Tests are definitely challenging. Section/good TA is VERY helpful. Doing HW is absolutely necessary. Lectures are helpful. Too bad Nesbitt is retiring after the fall quarter. Even tho she was challenging, she was also one of the best professors and one of the best classes I've taken.

Nesbitt has a ridiculously monotone voice, but it makes the handful of jokes she tells funny. Class is ridiculously interesting, there was no text book which I actually wish there had been. Exams are difficult, and make up 100% of your grade. Don't expect to do that well.

Comment:
Professor Nesbitt's lectures are interesting and holds your attention, and she is very clear and concise. However, her tests are horrific. Even if you do all her practice problems in the workbook, her test questions are somehow different enough to confuse you. The final seemed a little bit easier but it might be because I studied A LOT for it.

Probably one of the best but hardest teacher at UCSD. I wes definately challenged, but I really liked the class because instead of just memorizing stuff, you're actually doing something that requires some thinking. She explains things really well. One advice would be to go to office hour and find a good TA/section.

Nesbitt is one of the BEST teachers here at UCSD. The workbook is NOT confusing at all, just go to lecture and follow along...you should be FINE. Just as long as you promise to attend every lecture and keep up with the problems, EASY A guaranteed. The curve will be low thanks to idiots who think cramming the night before will save them.

Comment:
Dr. Nesbit delivers clear and concise lectures. Her work book, however, is overly confusing and frustrating to go through, as are her exams, which are of a much greater difficulty than what she presents in lecture. Don't let the open-book midterms fool you, this class is very hard. I recommend the alternative professor for BICD100.

She became interesting this quarter around for some odd reason and a lot clearer than compared to last spring quarter when i dropped her class. so it really depends on when you get her and how she feels like teaching her class at that moment; the second half of the subject material itself is harder than the first half, but she's there if u need her
