Most people complain about her but also dont put much effort into the class. Shes super accessible outside of class and will give points back on exams if you go in to talk to her about them. While most people complain about her, I can tell she cares for her students and tries her best to make sure her students understand the material.

Patricia is one of the worst professors I have had at Penn State. She constantly seems frazzled and as if she doesn't understand the material well herself. She is very scattered in class and hard to understand because she mumbles and doesn't check to see if students understand. DO NOT take her

her voice is frustrating and lectures are borrrinngggg. there are so many test you can't catch a break and material builds on itself so if you dont know it your screwed. lion tutors saved me but its annoying that i had to pay to learn the information...

She posts the powerpoint online the day before the lecture, but blows through each slide, so come prepared. The labs, homework, and exams (7 of them, but no final) were all easy too, but she does not do a thorough job teaching the material, although you do learn and the labs help you actually apply the information. She's a very nice person though.

She has no idea how to teach. I took AP Stats in high school (thank god), and my heart aches for the people who haven't taken any stats. In my entire life I have never seen so many people in one lecture hall more confused and angry at a teacher at one time.

Buchanan is a poor teacher but the material is not horrible, it just seems hard b/c she mumbles through slides with no explanations. The HW and labs are annoying and long but the exams aren't bad at all, especially if you go to Liontutors, gives you everything you need. 7 exams seems daunting but it's easier b/c theres only 1 chapter on each.

She is a really nice lady, but if I am being honest, the class was extremely unorganized. The homework and labs are not parallel with the exams, which is very confusing. I spent so much time trying to figure out homework problems that never ended up on any exams. The exams are simpler than the homework but never explained which makes it hard.

It is nothing short of a tragedy that this class is required for my major because Pat Buchanan is nearly unbearable as a teacher. Not only does she slur her words and mumble, but she gives daily clicker quizzes, in which she gives you about 30 seconds to answer a question on material you've never seen and grades it on correctness. Avoid if you can.

Pat may be one of the hardest professors I have had. There are 7 exams, including one 150 point cumulative exam. The lectures, labs, and home works are nothing like the exams. Textbook is not required, but it is the only way I was able to teach myself the material. Her lectures are boring, and she speaks fast & whines so it's hard to understand her

Pats pretty good. She has a lot of office hours and is very helpful during them. While lecture wasnt terribly exciting it was to the point and made sense. Mandatory due to clickers. As a science major this class was very easy. Get all the buffer points, study for exams, and youll do well. Pat gives a lot of extra material to prepare you for them.

Comment:
Patricia although passionate about the subject lacked an understanding of students not understanding certain lectures or chapters. There is a gap between lectures and lab and the lab instructors do not know what is being taught and it is hard for students because there is a lack of connection sometimes. She is always open to giving extra help.

Lectures arent very helpful, not helpful at all actually, mainly because quite literally every other word she says is the word again I guess she means well but honestly Im not paying this STEEP tuition to receive professors that are trying their best

Avoid if possible. The labs and homework are completely different from the exams. One plus though is there is no final.

Try your hardest to avoid Pat, but she's really not that bad. The most frustrating thing about the class is that the homeworks and labs are absolutely nothing like the 7 exams. The most important thing to know about this class is that LionTutors works miracles. LionTutors is strictly the reason I got an A- in this class.

Pat's lectures are not helpful at all. I only went for the clicker points. If you can, take this class with a group of friends so that you can all help each other out. It makes a HUGE difference. Exams can be difficult at times. Lab TAs were very helpful. Pat is not.

After hearing her cough into the microphone all semester I am glad it is almost over. She has 6 exams on each topic and a cumulative exam. If a person could talk too much during a lecture, it would be her, she rambles after every slide. There is a lot of homework

There are like 7 exams that make up 65% of your final grade, which I really disagree with. If you are a good test taker you have the upper hand. Lectures are boring and she doesn't explain concepts at all. Beware the 5th exam - it's hard. She also says the word "actually" over and over again, which can be a bit too much. She seems nice though.
