I took Dr. Ward's Harry Potter FYE and absolutely loved it. The only reason I gave her a level 3 for difficulty is because people shouldn't go into this class thinking they can skate through it. Dr. Ward is by no means hard, but you have to actually read and put work into the assignments. Probably one of the best classes at CofC. Take it if you can

I am so sad Dr. Ward is retiring! She is a GENIUS. No other person can make 14th-century literature as interesting and complex as Dr. Ward can. Her tests are difficult, and she expects a really deep read of texts from her students, however, she is a fair grader on papers and is always willing to work with students on deadlines. By far the best.

My favorite professor. Lectures will keep you entertained while learning a lot at the same time (especially since the subjects she teaches are so fun), and she really gets to know her students. She knows so much about English and makes me excited to persue the subject!

An interesting professor. Definitely not for everyone. She's intelligent but as it's an intro class, just does what she has to in order to get through it. If you're interested in english this could be a bit of a bore for you. However, she's a nice, helpful woman and she's grown on me a bit throughout the semester. The class is very easy.

Dr. Ward was a great professor! This was my hardest class last semester, but she made it worthwhile. Every class was very interesting and I'm taking her again this fall. Highly recommend her if you want a good, interesting English teacher!

Dr. Ward is easily one of the most notable and knowledgeable Old English scholars in the region, and her teaching ability is equally distinguished. She is engaging, thorough, inspiring, and effervesces her love for learning and literature alike. A must have for anyone serious about his/her academic experience at the College of Charleston.

Dr. Ward is the best professor I've had in college. She knows the material she's teaching backwards and forawrds and her class is always fun. She makes you do a certain number of one-page responses, but they're easy and can't hurt your grade if you do them. I would recommend taking her whether you're an English major or not.

Dr. Ward is firm, but fair. Class is always interesting and I learned a great deal about the Arthurian legends. She's quite funny and engages the class in the material. Very helpful and clear in what she's looking for; I'd definitely recommend her to anyone, major or not!

The most lovely teacher ever. This class was so interesting and she is such a good teacher. I adore her. If I can get the chance to, I'd take her again. Do the readings though- she does give little surprise quizzes but she drops your lowest grade. Plus, she LOVES for you to talk in class so speak up, even if you think you are wrong. She rocks!

hardest class i've ever had to deal with...crazy daily quizes where you have to memorize 20 lines of old english and all the parsing....i did all my homework evey day and still failed almost every single quiz...keep all your work cause you have to turn every single thing in at the end of the semester...boring and hard...

Trish Ward is pretty much my favorite teacher. Her class was the highlight of my semester. The key is to pay attention, speak up, and have a positive attitude. She is so helpful and sweet and interesting. She's a UNC fan, but I can get over that as long as she makes Chaucer interesting. TAKE HER!

I didn't see favorites being picked in my class. She could be quite amusing, and made the material we went through interesting, or at least bearable - even when it was not (Chaucer, anyone?). She just wants her students do actually put forth their own effort. Ask questions and study, and you'll do fine.

Doesn't stand for nonsense and will put you in your place if necessary, but overall she's very kind and wants you to do well. Has a good head on her shoulders but is a reasonable, leaning towards easy grader. Strikes a good balance between compassion and toughness. Do your reading, come to class, you'll be fine. Recommended.

Professor Ward was awesome. I really tried her patience a bunch when i had her but she was extremely understanding. She is highly knowledgeable in her field--i transeferred to Winthrop and everyone up here in this English Dept. knows and raves about her. Great teacher.

I greaduated with English Major in 1993. I can see by the reviews that some things never change. She picks favorites and is rude. I can't say I learned much from her and found that you either love her or hate her. I'm later. There was not a professor I had in 4 years that came close to the disdain I have for this woman.
