Overall, I good class and he's a really kind person. I took this because it seemed like the best option to get my English credit done. Honestly, it's pretty tough- it's a lot of lecturing and I had to put a lot more time and effort into this class than I anticipated. Just make sure you show up to class because his tests revolve around his lectures!

Fine's lectures are interesting and helpful for understanding the material. I had to buy 5 books for the class but they weren't expensive. Quizzes most days, but that might be because I had him once a week rather than a few times a week. He loves opening the class to discussion and values each student's thoughts and opinions. I would recommend him.

I generally do very well in English classes but I had a really difficult time with this course. I attend class regularly, take good notes and have felt very good about each of my papers, but I have gotten an 80 or 85 on every single assignment for his class. If you aren't worried about your GPA, go for it, but I wouldn't recommend if you need a 4.0

I think that Prof Fine is a cool person, but his class was much more difficult expected. I passed my last English course that was supposedly much more difficult than this with an A and am set on a midline B for his class. It is very hard to keep up with lecture because its so boring, and these terms seem to be nonexistent outside of his class.

SUCH a nice teacher! Lectures can sometimes be a bit dry so bring some coffee to keep you awake because trust me you're gonna wanna be awake for every word. (HINT: this will help you during a test!) If you don't like film, don't take this class. Also feel free to not buy the book it's not necessary at all.

A good professor! The class is easy enough if you simply show up and pay attention. It's a lot of watching movies and clips but he talks about it a lot and a lot of questions are based on things he says that you cannot find anywhere else. Don't bother with the textbook but show up to class! The papers and the tests are simple enough if you work!

I really enjoyed this class and thought Richard did a great job presenting the material. It has changed the way I watch movies. The tests are not difficult and he grades the papers fairly. Don't buy the textbook but do show up for class, participation and attendance counts.

This is an interesting class. Professor Fine talks a lot but it is interesting material. Textbook recommended by I didn't use it and did well in the class. He seems really sympathetic and caring toward his students.

Very boring lectures. Class itself is very simple as long as you use his notes during the lecture. He offers no extra credit, so your 3 tests, 3 papers and attendance weigh your entire grade. Tests are short answer, so always prepare. DON'T BUY THE TEXTBOOK! I bought it and never picked it up once.

Richard is over all an easily accessible professor but his class is based on 3 exams, 3 papers (short/easy if you take notes), and signing attendence sheet. His lectures are dry but he loves what he does. He is willing to work with you and responds to you. His grading system is odd so if you like to know grades right away dont expect it with him.

Pretty pleasant guy & an easy class if you just do the work & pay attention. He posts the required videos and powerpoints online so attendance isnt necessarily mandatory, but its still recommended as sometimes he gives hints about what will be on the tests. All tests are open question so you really have to know your stuff if you want to do well.

Professor Fine isn't a bad professor, but he can be a bit boring at times. Sit in the front few rows of class and it will be a lot more interactive and easier to pay attention to his lectures. I didn't really take notes in this class, but as long as you study the film term sheet he gives out at the beginning of the semester, you should be fine.

Only 3 papers and 3 Exams, VERY easy. You don't need to go to class to know the material just review the terms he gives for each exam and the videos he posts a day or two before the exam. And his papers are only 1-2 page double spaced, talk about easy. If you're going to learn don't take this class, but if you're going to get the credit SIGN UP!

He's a fine professor, but he doesn't really allow students to voice their own opinions if they don't match up with his own. We disagreed on one aspect of a film we watched, and he stopped calling on me or completely disregarded my comments. He knows what he's talking about, but don't expect much discussion in class.

Take Fine if literature is your thing. He is very passionate about the topics he teaches and will spend the whole class lecturing. He rambles a lot and takes some time to get to a point. He assigns a lot of readings and has pop quizzes throughout the semester. Most of his questions for exams are from lectures so go to class.

This is the second class I've taken with Fine, and have signed up for another. I appreciate his clear cut grading and expectations. If you do the reading, you will pass the quizzes and the exams with flying colors. It always helps to participate. Overall an enjoyable lecturer and chooses wonderful reading material.

I've had teachers who run amuk throwing out names and works, flaunting their knowledge, and leaving students in the dark on every reference and comparison. Fine is the exact opposite. He truly submerges you in the literary world and gives you the who what where why & when on authors, works, and genres. His lectures are highly interesting.

You can tell the man learned from Bryant Mangum. A remarkable teacher, a remarkable class. Friendly, funny and vastly knowledgeable. Introduced me to authors I'd never heard of that are now some of my favorites. He has a delicacy and patience with students and provides a great deal of helpful feedback. One of the best.
