If you want to take Greek, think again. Take Latin first at Saint Mike's if you choose to go the Classics route. There is a quiz everyday and he doesn't prepare you for midterm/final. Its mainly a teach yourself class and you only learn from the book. Can't skip because of daily quizzes. Doesn't tell you your grades unless you're failing.

He makes latin so much fun! He is clear with what he expects from class. Class attendance is mandatory in that if you do not attend class, you will fall behind on the material. That's just how latin works. Very willing to help, fair grader, and kind.

Prof. Begley is a very smart man. He really knows his stuff. He is very passionate about what he knows and expects everyone else to be just as passionate. He has a very high standard. He will help you but expects you to work hard for it. He is so knowledgeable that sometimes it is hard for him to connect with and teach his students.

Begley can be very abstract, but overall I liked the class and I think he's a great professor. The only thing I didn't like about Ethics was having 2 exams make up most of your grade instead of papers (which is what I was expecting) but the exams were reasonable. Definitely a manageable class!

Comment:

Begley is the model for what all teachers should strive to be. He is incredibly knowledgeable, he cares deeply about his students' learning, and his class has a mind-bogglingly elegant unity and flow to it. If you are lazy and unwilling to make a college-level effort, you won't enjoy his class. If you actually care about learning, you will love it.

Having nearly completed my senior year, I can say that there is no professor I have ever had better than Ron Begley. His passion for the material is rivaled only by the degree to which he cares about his students' learning. He encourages students to think deeply and critically; he is not ideal for those who would rather be spoon-fed information.

Begley is an great professor! He genuinely cares about his students and wants them to do well in his class. He focuses more on grammar than vocab, and while his teaching style is a little confusing at first, you get used to it. He quizzes and tests are daunting but he gives lots of partial credit. Don't be afraid to ask for help!

Honesly, I am not impressed with this man. He is intellegent and likes to flaunt his knowledge with the class. I honestly wish there was someone else that I could take from. He shows the info in the book and then goes off on his own without giving info about what he is talking about. I'm extremely frustrated.

Prof. Begley is a wonderfully kind man! On a personal level, he is intriguing and inspiring. However, in Latin class the professor teaches abstractly. He is not clearly enough to take comprehensive notes and his approach to the language is at times so particular & mechanical that its beauty is lost. Further, his workload/quizzes are daunting.
