Very poor professor. Obnoxious amount of work for an entry level class as well as unclear lectures and material. Was definitely one of my worst experiences for a class at Penn State. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS, and if you have to, do not take it with Purao.

Terrible professor, unclear and unhelpful, dispenses grades arbitrarily, made entry level courses overly challenging, unqualified for his position as a professor at this school.

This class was okay. Dr. Purao is a nice guy, though I question his method of grading. For the class projects, worth 50% of the grade, if you get an "A" on it the highest score you can get is a 90. Makes it hard to do well if you do poorly on an exam

The class gave me little of what I expected. It is more theoretical than technical based. Grading scale is wacky, ie 70%=A, but it is hard to attain. Nearly all assignments are in teams, which are assigned for you. Very hard if you have a lazy group. Exam material comes straight from powerpoints. No need to take notes. Not a fun class to attend.

He pretty much throws information at you and hopes it sticks. He has you read a decent amount for an IST course. He has the class teach itself by teams, but no one pays attention anyway. Avoid him.

He's not easy, but neither is the real world. He will make you think hard about the subject matter and is very willing to help. For this class in particular: Dr. Purao makes it comprehensive. If you don't put forth solid effort and learn as much as possible from this class and the project, it's my opinion that you're not ready to graduate.

Purao is one of the nicest professors in IST. He is always willing to help if you just ask him. If you work hard in his class, you'll do fine, sounds like a lot of slackers on here complaining. If you're looking for a real, meaningful project in IST - take Purao. If you're dedicated and you seek out help, you'll excel in Purao's class.

Sandeep is by far NOT the worst instructor out there. He holds high expectations from students who should be meeting those expectations (especially taking a course that is one or two away from graduating). A lot of reading assigned. Exams only about 25-30% of final grade. Nice guy overall, especially out of class.

Sandeep is less than helpful. His class is beyond confusing along with his teaching method. The entire class is based off a project. If your project sucks you are in trouble because he will assume you are incompetent. The exams make no sense and require more translation than knowledge of class facts. Avoid Purao at ALLL costs.

This professor is ridiculous. Everyone who doesn't meet his expectations will be degraded by him and will suffer the entire year. Expects way too much from the students. You may put full effort into it, but if he feels like you haven't, then you will suffer greatly. If possible, take another teacher. He is by far the worst professor at PSU.

Professor Purao is the last step from college to professionalism, as you will only see him teaching 400 level courses. Take his class seriously, and he will respect you equally. His assignments are difficult and the exams are take home (still difficult though). In his class, you take on a real client with him as an advisor. It's worthwhile.

WORST PROFESSOR AT PENN STATE! There is no way of knowing what or when things are due. Expected the class to read articles but forgot to post the articles and then yelled at us for not reading them. There was no teaching/learning in the class. The class was pure insanity. I would never take him again and if I had to, I would leave Penn State.

Sandeep's not a jerk. He takes PBL a little too far (you have to learn a lot on your own) and is a tough grader, but he is a nice guy and will help you if you go talk to him. This class is a LOT of work (100+ page final report - mostly diagrams), but in retrospect I got a lot out of it. It might be frustrating sometimes, but it's not THAT bad...

Seriously read the below info. It says it all, he is the type of JERK that will go out of his way to show how much he disdains you. And if he dislikes you then your whole team will suffer on projects. It is pretty ridiculous. If you can sign up with ANYONE ELSE!

You will have no idea what he wants you to do. His quizzes are ridiculous essays about things you will have no idea about. Expect 40's and 50's. He does not miss a chance to poke fun at someone and his way of teaching is asking students for answers. If you want to learn, take someone else. If you want to show off that you know something - take him.

Purao is a dueche bag at the core, seems like a nice guy at first. Until you realize that this guy has no idea what he wants you to do or what he's teaching. He changes deliverables on projects and will make snide remarks with a S.E. grin. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Save yourself the frustration.
