Comment:
Homework isn't difficult, but there's a lot of it: nightly readings and two written responses each week. Attendance is graded but Steve's pretty flexible with grades as long as you have a legitimate reason for skipping. Test averages are in the 70s but he allows a double-sided cheat sheet and offers extra credit if your test grade improve.

Find a new professor right away. You have to go to class but he will not teach anything related to soc but those random things he says will show up on his exams. He is okay with the test average being in the 60s. I went to help and the dean trying to get help but neither were helpful. Also there are TAs that will not do anything the whole class.

I took intro to soc with Stephen because I saw he had good reviews but for the love of god, DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASSES WITH HIM. Both of our test averages for the class have been in the 60's, he doesn't give extra credit, there are like 4 versions of every exam. Right now, only 10% of our class can get an A. Absolutely AWFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wanna feel like your in high school? with journal entries due each class. Literally makes me hate being in college. I'd skip everyday if i could still pass.

Steve is a great teacher, but the class was a joke. Not all his fault having over 100 students. We had 21 journal entries to write, 4 out of 6 papers, and we pretty much graded ourselves. Hence why I didn't get an A. Seek him out at office hours, he'll make you feel important.

Steve is great! The class is enjoyable and the work is relatively easy. You get to choose which assignments to do as long as you complete a certain number of them. Definitely recommend him and this class!

Steve is quite easy to please. His classes are interesting and keep you awake. In intro you grade yourself which seems like it would be easy but the fact that your teacher trusts you to grade yourself appropriately and choose which assignments you wanna do makes you want to do better for your own purposes. I recommend this class highly.

Sweet is one of the most frustrating professors I have come in contact with. His assignments are annoying busy work that seem to have no real applicative value, and his grading scheme is nonsensical and arbitrary. He is more helpful if you seek him out during his office hours, but he has a tendency to answer questions obscurely and indirectly.

he's a really nice guy and the class was ridiculously easy. i didn't get an a+ only because i didn't hand in a rewrite of a paper and didn't feel like writing the last paper since we only had to do 5 out of 6. his class was kind of boring and i wish he wasn't so strict about attendance, but it's really acquire lost points at end of semester

I love this man. I love the way he teaches and makes me think differently about society. I want to have his babies. Even though The Changing Family seems basic, he makes it interesting. If you could only take one soc class, take it with him!

A guy I really respect. Steve is easily one of the professors I respect the most at Ithaca. He knows exactly what he's talking about and has this incredibly positive to him that makes everything he says so much more interesting. He graded a little tougher than I was expecting but not a hard class. Take a class with Steve if you want a Soc class.

LOVED this class and love steve!! he really is a fascinating guy...i could listen to him for hours. a lot of work, but easy enough to get an A as long as you demonstrate an understanding of the concepts he really wants you to grasp. would recommend any class w/ him!

You have to do the reading on your own, but it does keep the class more interesting because you're not just reviewing stuff you already read. He's very clear about expectations and willing to listen to any concerns you have. Great class and great professor!
