Tom is very nice, while he cares a lot about students he is also a somewhat tough grader. Homework is mandatory usually only 3-6 problems a night. Tests can be difficult.

Pros: He was always available for extra help and wanted students to do well. Cons: Not great at relating class content with homework. Long homeworks for every single class and usually would receive failing grades. Redoing homework was a must, in addition to completing the upcoming assignment. Highest expectations from a teacher I have ever had.

Took his class for my math credit. Had homework about everyday but it was graded more on effort than correctness. I suck at math and I passed with an AB. He seems to care about students' grades but if you are struggling, don't expect him to hand over the answer, you must ask questions or reach out for help.

Tom is a very intelligent professor who knows his subject perfectly. He has issues teaching calculus at the students level, so sometimes his lectures can get a little confusing. He grades hard on tests, but is willing to help outside of class hours. He really just wants people to succeed.

Comment:
Tom is very dry teacher. Scatter-brained, writes all over the board when teaching. Homework is graded, but is never gone over in class unless asked. Quizzes are extremely easy, but tests are much more in depth than class work. Answers a question with a question. If you have no prior Calc. experience or struggle in math this class will be a grind.

Sibley is an awesome teacher. He truly cares about his students and is always there to help you. His tests are not easy, but they are fair. Sibley is passionate about math and definitely increased my interest in math. Make sure you go to office hours and get to know him, it is very helpful.

Tom Sibley is a great professor! He is good at explaining topics and focuses on WHY things work and doesn't say "Because that's how it is." Always willing to answer questions and loves when you ask them! I'd recommend him!

Dr. Sibley is a great calc prof. He is very good at explaining how something works rather than having to just accept the math as 'magic' of sorts. He has very open office hours & if you are willing to put in the time & effort to do well in his class (doing the Hmwk & Do problem sets and asking questions) he will gladly help you to succeed.

I learned more about calculus in high school than I did with him teaching. Part of this comes from him spending a large chunk of time on proofs that are intended for higher levels of math. He can be very intimidating, and he has a tendency of making people feel stupid when asking questions.

Comment:
Completely useless for help in the capstone. Out of touch with reality regarding class work load and interest. Makes everyone feel stupid when asking questions. He is unreasonable when it comes to changing topics and assignments (part of the course is to figure this stuff out). Even the other profs think his capstone plan is crazy.

Assigns impossible proofs but does not teach you how to do them. Misleading as to the content of tests. Doesn't teach anything in class just shows you a proof for some stupid theorem you probably can't use anyway.

Nice guy, very passionate about math. He is also challenging, but you learn a lot in his class. He uses real-world examples a lot. The tests are somewhat difficult, but the homework is very hard. Oh, and he never ever wears shoes to class.

Tom is nice...usually. If you ask him a question in class he makes you feel stupid. He thinks everyone knows calculus prior to the class or at least acts like it. Exams are tough! I'd avoid unless you are very math savvy and don't care about how he talks down to you if you are lost in class.

I feel like defenestrating myself every single day. He is freaking hard, and doesn't explain very well. I just want the course to be over already. He also belives everyone knows what he is talking about, and his tests are extremely hard!!!! Think it twice before taking him.
