DO NOT TAKE HER!!!! if you go to temple and need to take legal studies there are many other better and easier professors. She grades you on a total of 5 assignments 2 of which are midterms that are next to impossible. I am a junior at Fox and this is the hardest class ive ever taken. do yourself a favor and STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!

Comment:

Professor Lawrence is one of the most interesting professors I ever had. You can tell she really cares about her craft, and it is obvious that she is an expert on the subject. The only downfall is that the tests are very difficult, but if you show up and take good notes, you will be fine.

STAY AWAY!! This professor talks the entire class and it is hard to stay focused. Her tests are 7-9 pages long and mostly open-ended. If you don't read the book you will fall behind. We have weekly homework assignments, a common assignment, 3 exams, 1 project. She is a strict grader and does not take her student's opinions into consideration

The tests are ridiculous, 7-9 pages long. Only 1 of those pages are multiple choice. The rest are terms where u have to apply the answer. Homeworks are fairly easy, but are no help for the exams. There is a lot of reading involved before every class. If don't read the book it'll be hard to keep up with the class. She is test heavy, total 65%.

I was really excited to take this course bc it seemed really interesting, but lawrence ruined that. she is difficult to communicate with, slightly disrespectful to student opinions and questions, gives unnecessarily long and hard tests and grades particularly harshly. I have no idea why Im failing a gened but here i am. DO NOT TAKE HER IN ANY CLASS

DO NOT TAKE HER! The information isn't very hard, but her tests are horrible. Seven pages long, and essay included. Allows extra credit, but only after you take the test. Good luck getting an A in the class.

Vanessa Lawrence is an exceptional Professor. The class isnt easy but the information is delivered clearly with lots of examples. You have to make an effort but this professor truly cares about her students and makes a real connection. A true educator. She may be the best Professor Ive ever had.

Tests are very comprehensive you need to study but if you know your notes youll pass. Lots of additional work (articles, weekly journals, final project) not really worth the gen ed credit. Not a super easy gen ed if youre looking for one.

Professor Lawerence is a decent professor. Her lectures are interesting and she makes the material really interesting. She does not, however, give great feedback on the very few things we are graded on. She takes FOREVER to grade things and not to mention she does not post the grades online, so it can get confusing!

difficult class only made harder by the fact that she will not post any grades for anything you have on canvas. I took my midterm on October 10 and di not receive grade until Nov I was barely allowed to review test I have my final FRI with little idea what test will be on and how well I need to do. Funny lady, but not a very solid prof

Prof. Lawrence is a tough lady. She can be stand-offish but wants her students to do well and succeed. Once you get to know her, she actually really friendly and knowledgeable. Do not take her for an easy A. Her exams are difficult so it is important to attend all of the classes, ask questions, and take notes. Highly recommend if you want to learn.

I like her personality & she is a good professor, but the class is god awful. She is a tough, unfair grader and doesn't show your grade (you have to calculate it yourself basically doing her job)The test are hard & she gives you the information like a few days before. If you have republican views, you won't like the class. Class sucks. Good luck :(

Disappointing. I was hoping this class would be more legal related. We had to write a one page race journal every week about a race incident. Also she's a tough, unfair grader. The exams are long and mostly open ended. If you're looking for an easy gen ed race class, do not pick this class.

This was my first time having her as my professor. She is a truly an amazing professor, although she's highly strict and a 0-tolerance woman its for the best of the class. She knows how to relate real-life situations of law and how it affects us on a daily, rather than simply going over "legal definitions." Her experience as a lawyer is insightful.

Prof. Lawerence is my favorite professor here at Temple. She comes off as a hard ass but is really not at all. She tells it like it is and doesn't teach you fluff like a lot of other classes. I have taken her for 2 classes and just registered to take her for a third. She inspired me to change my major to legal studies.

Comment:

Lawrence is a good professor but she comes off strong. Her African-American Law and Equality class is interesting, but a little difficult. Her teaching style is a little different. The only bad thing is she is a little intimidating and makes that makes it hard to participate in class. I personally would not take her class again.

She's a great lecturer. Classes are based on in class group discussions. Take notes during the discussion! and read before them because participation counts!!

she makes test based of her in class discussion. no slides. i bought the book, but not necessary. only used to complete about 3-5 hw assignments. tests are fairly long. (50 min class - 6 page exam) there is built in extra credit, but can only be completed once you finish exam. She let us have a partner exam. grades lightly on everything else.

Comment:

Does not create a good environment for a Race and Diversity class. Not an easy GenEd. Taught about slavery for about half of the course, then rushed at the end of the semester to get through more recent history. Would not recommend to anyone who is easily intimidated or who genuinely wants to learn about how to help with modern issues of race.
