Alan Burner is a great professor. He makes time for you if you don't undestand something, and is very easy to talk to.If he sees you making an effort, he will go out of his way to help you.

The problem is that he uses his own book he wrote. It was written like a 1970s textbook my father might have used. Also, he can be almost insulting and very smug about himself. That's the worst part. If you agree with everything he says, you will survive. If you have a different point of view or are not crazy about his art, you are going down.

Hard classes with lots of homework. Color Theory seems like a waste of time at first, especially with some of the homework. In retrospect, it was extremely insightful. I wouldn't take this class from anyone other than Alan Burner; he's really a great teacher. Just don't fall behind.

He's a really good professor. I'm learning a lot in his class and he really cares about his students doing well. He is a fair grader. He wrote the book that the school uses for this class, so he knows his stuff.

Hard to like someone better than they like themself! He is too into making students feel inadequate rather than helping them improve. No one should say "you have to fight for your grade" that is not a component for success nor an effective teacher. Burner just needs to grow up and act like an instructor, get off center stage & help students.

I'm so glad I had Alan Burner as a professor back in 2002. He really taught me about art and design and challenged me to really let my imagination run wild. He's an asset to the school and to the students! Does he still have the blue bunny? =)

The first 2 weeks of this class is a lot of busy work but he does this to filter out the class; so the slackers will drop out within a week. His tests were extremely easy, 20 vocabulary was an easy perfect midterm score for those who studied. Great lectures and I liked the class.

An extreamly valuble teacher in my education here at AI. Sure he was hard, and the group project for geurnica was extreamly annoying, but he's a very good teacher with personality and flare.

what more can be said about the burner?yeah, he's tough, firm but fair. but he was there for most of the quarter for most other people. i got him when he was constantly taking little business trips so our class never got full clarity on his crazy 16-hour assignments. TRUE, the book was pretty much an expensive vanity item but i do gotta admit his assignments taught me a lot about color theory. that guernica assignment was fun, despite the occasional psychotic episode. BUT HEY I HEARD JAYNES WAS EQUALLY HARD

berner is the knid of teacher that reminds you that youre in art school! he's so creative and inspiring, but when it comes down to it, his assignments are vauge and cheesy.....difficult to do, becuse he calls for too many specifics. (with no real reason)..

Comment:
he is too unclear and inconsistant with his directions. he needs to realize that we cannot successfully produce an assignment if he changes the project criteria at the last minute.
