Professor Lutz was AWESOME to work with! He had a few different options for getting grades in his class, didnt require you to do EVERY essay (I did the midterm, final, and 2 essays) but you do have to read a lot and youll definitely want to be present in his class (he would give us 3 unexcused days before deducting points). But 10/10 class.

Though attendance is mandatory, this class was never boring and I always looked forward to it. He really gets you engaged with the readings and cares about helping you make good grades. The exams are open note open book and he provides easy essay topics for you if you cannot think of one. Best English Professor I have ever had. And he's funny!!

Solid professor all around. Full of funny and interesting anecdotes, knowledgeable about things outside of English, and always willing to help. He gives solid feedback on paper drafts you send to him and does the good kind of feedback that challenges your beliefs. Sometimes the classes get political, but never uncivil. It's a good kind of discourse

Honestly this is one of the classes I look forward to the most throughout the week. It is mainly lecture and discussion based but is not boring at all. Instead the discussions are both interesting and enlightening. He also lets you pick how many exams and essay you want to do and the exams are so easy; open note and book.

Great man. Great class. Only 4/5 grades including midterm and final so you need to make them count. He'll give good feedback if you send him a draft. He wants you to succeed in his class. Fun accent and lots of cute little anecdotes. I love this man.

LOVED experience of literature with Lutz! Obviously, you'll have to read, but you get to pick which few novels you write papers on. You get plenty of options on how you want to earn your grade, which is cool. Very funny, and genuinely cares about his students.

This was a challenging class, from the amount of reading to essays and tests. However, it was a very interesting class, and he is a great professor.

He is certainly a good teacher and quite engaging, but he gave me Bs on papers in which he did not like the content, even though I often said what he said in class. Tests are also ridiculous - wsy too long to complete in an hour and a half with any measure of accuracy or decent writing quality.

I was challenged in Lutz's class, but thoroughly enjoyed it. If you read the materials it is much easier to participate. However, he does not force you to do so. He is incredibly intelligent, and has extensive knowledge on just about everything. In spite of that, he is very gracious while grading, and takes others into consideration. Grades fairly

Dr. Lutz is a great English teacher. He is very well-read, and his assignments are very reasonable-- you have to put in an effort if you want to get an A, though! He WILL challenge your ideas. It may seem like he's a bit argumentative and opinionated, but it's only because he's trying to challenge you and make you think. He's also pretty funny.

Dr. Lutz is the best professor I have ever had! I hate English courses, but his is so fun and relevant. He brings in current topics to relate to each novel. There are two exams: a midterm and a final. Both of which are open note AND open book. If you take good notes and participate during class, you'll definitely get an A.

Prof Lutz is amazing. He really encourages class discussion about socially relevant topics pertaining to the content of the required texts. Reading texts is required. NOTE: he will challenge many typical conservative ideas, but is not unreasonable if you can show that your beliefs are based on logical thought.
