GET READY TO READ BECAUSE HE IS ALL OVER THE PLACE AND JUMPS FROM TOPIC TO TOPIC WITH NO CONNECTIONS. BE PREPARED TO TEACH YOURSELF THE MATERIAL. HIS LECTURES ARE SOO BORING(TOO MANY BORING TANGENTS) (COMING FROM SOMEONE WHO GETS EXCITED ABOUT BIO). MAKES SO MANY MISTAKES. I ALSO TOOK MICRO WITH HIM AND GOT AN A THANKS TO ME.

He is approachable and outgoing. You do have to work for your grade and he does set you up to teach you how to study. The problem is he goes off on tangents, & completely loses the entire class and some of his questions on his tests are 2 answers could be true. T&F questions scare me and it's too much for a general bio class. Needs to be toned down

He is an insanely nice guy but teaching was not his calling. He has a hard time explaining what he's trying to teach and staying on topic is hard for him. Be prepared to teach yourself

Scala is an interesting guy and makes corny jokes about micro, but he bases much of lecture on powerpoints and there are usually too many slides that its not a real summary of the textbook chapters. Hard to realize what is important for tests sometimes. Lab was really fun def better than lecture, but barely counts 25% of the grade unfortunately.

BIO 105 with Condon confirmed my love for biology, but BIO 106 with Scala made me question it. He is a great man, but a very poor professor. He TOLD us to study 3 specific things for a quiz, and the quiz only had one of them?? He is so flip floppy. He posts powerpoints online, but says extra stuff in class that always ends up on tests.

Brilliant and witty but, a lackluster professor. His lectures consist of him just reading off PowerPoints and talking off topic. Very unclear on what you need to know for quizzes and exams. He's very clear and helpful in lab however.

Took micro. Here's the deal: you don't have to kill yourself, but you have to work. You have to read the chapters and do the homework. For those saying Scala isn't clear, I never had that experience with him. If he doesn't answer a question in class, it's because we're taking too long on the subject but he always answered after class very clearly.

Dr. Scala is a nice man. However, he is in the wrong profession. He is extremely smart and passionate, but he is not good and explaining. He knows what he is talking about, but he doesn't know how to talk about it. Extremely smart, great with science and laboratory procedures. But be prepared to teach yourself the lecture material. Not helpful.

Dr. Scala is an absolute fount of knowledge. Has a great sense of humor, is very fair in his grading practices, and makes you work for your good grade. Anyone looking for an easy A isn't going to get it, but if you do the work and pay attention, the knowledge gleaned from this man is incredible.

Dr. Scala is a very intelligent man. However, he does NOT know how to pass on that knowledge to others in a cohesive manor. If you attend class, be prepared to spend about half the class being taught and the other half dwelling on storieshistory lessons that are unrelated to the course. Will never take a course with him again. Difficult to learn.

I was really disappointed with this professor. He seemed organized in the beginning of the semester but as it progressed he became unorganized and unpredictable. A few times he moved tests up a week and occasionally gave misinformation or got confused. Was also very unprepared for labs. You'll do well if you study ALL of the book material

Very knowledgeable man, doesn't know how to teach the knowledge! Expected to learn on your own. He just reads the power-point. Posts lecture notes 5 min before class. Surprises quizzes that he never mentions. Make sure u check online daily in his class or u will miss assignments that he posts out of the blue! And he wont care!My first C EVER!

Dr. Scala is the best professor Dutchess has ever had the pleasure of having. The way he teaches his classes, the information he brings from outside (real life knowledge), and the case studies are all valuable to success in his class. Unlike many other professors, he actually knows how to apply the knowledge learned in class and make it useful.
